indian special forces are too good at their work in reality nobody even in india knows the real capabelities of indian forces.
theyare far superior and more advanced i saw many commando trainings and special forces trainings and i can bet if someone come to know the real capabelities of indian special forces then he will not dare to meet them in real fight.

see buddy most of the gun lovers in india who are very much into weapons know what kind of gun IOF produces here i have seen cases where 9mm IOF made ammo was so bad that it didnt function well in austrian made glock 17. so buddy if the ammo is bad think about the guns.luckily unlike normal infantry who know that they want better weapons but still cant get them the special units like the para's,marcos,garuds,SPG,NSG are able to get imported weapons of their choice and quality.
ALL HERE: Thanks for the replies guys. I know what is to be used in different situations and what is not to be. The reason why I asked about all these small arms is that why are we Indians not making series of such weapons indigenously and instead buying.

i retired hurt as a major after a shoot out in the north east..the north easterners are natural fighters...if the all the militants in the north east are incorporated in the indian army i think china woudnt be a problem in terms of conventional warefare..the nscn, the ndfb, unlf, pla, ulfa etc etc are natural fighters with killing is in their dna...the govt of india shuld try and get these militants in the army and a special regiment can be made...they can live with eating leaves for months...
I don't understand why we have so many different brands of assault rifles rather than sticking to 1 or 2 forms. Some have M16s, some have Tavors, some have AK-103s, some have INSAS, some use SIG SG 550... This is really difficult to manage and we lose a lot of money maintaining each and every type of gun.
Indian Army should quit doing nakhras for foreign 'maal' and start inducting modern versions of INSAS.
@Saffronwing1 hey bro every rifle has got some advantages and disadvantages ... u can't say that insas is the only assault rifle should be used and u are not an army personnel so u cann't say that...

But India needs Aegis/Patriot/THAAD Missile Defense vs China. Tejas=Mirage 2K type obsolete OK 4 R&D but 5th Gen Fighters r needed.
SU-30's limited No's, India sends Engines back to Russia for Repairs, not Strategically smart.
India must get coalition w/ Strategic Countries, Japan & USA (base?) to defend vs China String of Pearl attack plans.
Can't trust Russia they will support China ahead of India always. Independent Military capability is essential.

it all depends on the situation and the terrain that you will be in:
for an op like mumbai which is CQB ,mp5/FN P90 is the best choice
for CI ops in kashmir tavor,AK47 are great
tavor wins over AK as night sights,laser,UBGL can be easily attached on the rifle
