Had a real talk to him once in Blackpool ,on the pier when he and other big name rock n rollers came in the cafe . But the only one willing to talk ,at length and give autographs was Gene . This is a very good interview. Some people do think that a singer can only be "country" or "rock 'n' roll" or whatever. In Ireland, this is very much the stream of thought as well. I love Gene Vincent, Moon Mullican, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley - artists who sing everything. I try to do this on my own CDs and when I sing live as well as it is more interesting and, yes, rock 'n' roll and country (and blues) are all very similar as Gene says.

Think that for Britains -wich have been fightin against Germans in Word War-, a "Black Leather-Dress" were still a sinonym to "Nazis". Thanks for posting this. I love the bit when he talks well of John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival (one of the best bands in the history of Rock&Roll, and the very top in 1969-1972). Gene Vincent was a great singer, one of the true pioneers of Rock'n'Roll, and - for those who know something about his life - quite obviously a great man

The most interesting part of the interview, after bating Gene constantly through out, he is suddenly told by Gene that 'he didn't have to work after all'.

I don't think the interviewer did his homework properly, & in the end lacked any foresight,.....so much for trying to be trendy a?.

Actually Gene in his prime had an excellent voice; very on key & a nice tone to boot. He recorded a slew of great songs (Race With The Devil; Who Slapped John; Blue Jean Bop for starters) besides Be Bop A Lu La. His back up band the Blue Caps were amazing; check out the lead guitarist in particular. Finally the reason the English liked him was because he was actually very talened, cool, & he would actally travel to England. Note that they liked Eddie Cochran & Buddy Holly when the USA didn't.
