The boilerplate "sports" music and production really stands in contrast to how the NBA on NBC made sports production younger, hipper, more culturally relevant along with the game's growth. Bob Costas and Dick Enberg set scenes better than anyone ever has, and the frequent use of rock music in those intros (and John Tesh's legendary "Roundball Rock" as anthem for the sport) did wonders for the games themselves.
What Mahorn did to Bird...that's the NBA I miss. When players did not give an inch. When there was no love for the opposition except for Zeke and Magic. (I blame Isiah and Earvin for the lovefest we see today) I want the old NBA back when a player could put down the hard foul. That's when it was fun to watch.
i kow some of you wont agree with this and i'm NOT a Laker fan but this team was loaded! everybody was healthy and in shape. Magic's knees bothered him but Kareem still gave you something and BIG GAME JAMES was in his prime!
but their opponents were still the Boston Celtics - and while they were battered from their previous seven game series, they were still armed and dangerous....

Laker fans are portrayed as blase and layback because THEY ARE!

@ace11rothstein Could be worse, we could be celtic or bulls fans!

@DoomDarenxbourg You mean you could be REAL fans? Yeah, you certainly don't want that!
Enjoy the tears that are floating in your chardonnay.

At that time Brent Musburger did not read tease scripts, but poems instead.

After rampaging through the Western Conference playoffs, the Lakers were clearly established as the heavy favorites in this series....
