Great job. I'm wrestling with how to gently lead people out of this view. In some contexts humor is a great tool. How to connect up the various pathologies we suffer from with our view of the Gospel. Hard and worthy work you are doing keep it up.
I'm not a believer in Mayan prophecy either but your statement about the Mayan calendar stopping at 2012 because they ran out of room at the end of the building is funny.
(The Mayan calendar is round. Maybe the circle was to small.)
You are also tying in LEGALISM in with dispensationalism which again, is totally false. If dispy's are guilty of anything, it's not legalism but in fact the opposite of taking liberty to far and turning "grace" into "cheap grace".
That definition is not what theologians are referring to when they refer to Dualism (capital D) however which is the belief that there are two opposite deities that have been in a constant war since the beginning; one that is good (light, benevolent) and one that is evil (dark, malignant).
So because Lahaye didn't quote Jesus exactly on the day and the hour verse, now suddenly he is being satanic?
Satan misquoted what God said to INTENTIALLY DECEIVE Eve. That was his motive. Are you saying that Lahaye is doing the same; that his motive is to deceive?
Be careful how you judge, my friend for you too will be judged by the same measure. (hope I quoted that right because if not, I guess now I'm satanic)
To tie dispensationalism, even if tongue-in-cheek, to dyfunctions like impotency, etc does nothing to gain any respect from fellow Christians like myself that see this as a REAL SYMPTOM of your spiritual immaturity.
Why not just laugh? And you must understand that Joel-and the good brothers at American Vision-see the pathologies of modern/postmodern Christianity, as the REAL CAUSES, of the anxiety, despair, and apathy so rampant in the church. Ask yourself what does it do to a Christian's psyche to believe that this Way that Christ gave us is culturally and historically impotent against the forces of Satan?
What the HECK are talking about??? Sounds like a bunch a intelligent sounding NONSENSE.
What does modernism/postmodernism have to do with anything?? FYI "Modernism" stretches back to the Enlightenment and before. Not exactly so recent a phenomenon. We've had "anxieties, despair, and apathy" since the very dawn of the early church. Ever read Corinthians? How about Revelation ch. 2 and 3??
I can't even make sense of your last sentence. WOW>>>>>>>>>
I never claimed the early church didn't have issues nor did I claim these views were recent-however in the grand scheme the enlightenment wasn't so long ago . However we live with an ideological heritage from the modern and postmodern periods that has created pathologies specific to our era. Dispensationalsim seems to result in a culturally, historically, politically, artistically impotent church. One writer calls it schizophrenic theology, strong words worth considering.
To simply make claims like you are is nothing more than rhetoric. To say that Dispensationalism is just some product of our impotent church and is a form of schizophrenia (pathology) is nonsense. One could just as easily make the same claims about your own particular twist of theology.
You're not "SAYING" anything. You're just making emotive and wild claims without any foundation. But then again, in a postmodern world, words don't have to "SAY" anything, right?

And what is this "straw-man" garbage that if one is dispensational, then by definition, he believes in "Dualism"?
Do you even know what dualism means?
That Christ and Satan are at war which will commence in the future at the battle of Arm. is NOT Dualism.
HaveUconsidered 2 years ago
@HaveUconsidered the state of being dual or consisting of two parts; division into two. There is "Dualism" and then an infinite number of "dualism".
