You sir, are my christmas hero. We had an tradition to watch this every year and this year i hadn't time to watch it. and when i found this i got to see this every single year!!! u made my christmas <3 (and sorry for my english :D )
Thank you, @DTVzone, for posting this. It brings back so many childhood memories. And I see I'm not alone in wishing there was a 'classic' Disney Channel for those of us who remember how much better it was 25+ years ago. Cheers!
I wish Disney Channel could at least play some of these around Christmas time. I mean they can spare a half hour of the crap they air now to actually air something good like these specials during the holidays.
This was always one of my favorite Christmas specials when I was young. I loved this one and other specials so much! This made my childhood Christmas.
THANK you for posting this. I have memories of watching this all while growing up. I forgot about this until I just came across it after looking at Disney Halloween.. which I had not forgot. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! DISNEY, put this on DVD and you will get more of my hard earned money… Please!
This is my most earliest TV memory, we had this on a betamax taped off the TV and I just remember constantly watching it. It must have been Christmas 1983 as before on the tape was a clip of the Flying Pickets singing "only you" (the UK Christmas no.1 that year!) But my younger sister (2 years old) decided to stuff biscuits into the video and completely ruined it!! Haven't seen it from that day to this, many thanks for sharing :)
I dont remember this one. I did remember a sing-along Disney Christmas recording, Little Nemo, and Mickey Christmas Carol, also the ending of Jimmy Cricket christmas part feature "When you wish a upon of a star". Well that was many year ago when this was record/ released this program from the 80's, 90's when they show the other christmas spcieal well I dont know what to say. @ . @; Merry Christmas!
oh my goodness this is the ONE I have been looking for. i knew the special was from the 80's, and i thought it was "a christmas gift"..but this is def it! AHHH so excited hahaha!!
my sibilings and I taped this back when it was on the disney channel, what feels like a thousand years ago. We watched the tape all year round, until it died. By then, disney had begun to change dramatically, and now this is just a fond memory of the days of old, before the rise of teen stars and other things that the disney channel obsesses over. I love the old days, but I fear they may be gone forever
@TallchickLynz ...OH MY GOSH! I AM SO EXCITED...ME TOO! BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOREVER! my mom recorded this when my sister and i were little but like others our tape died ;( so thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooo much for posting this. i've been searching for years
I love this special! I grew up watching it and I have decided that Disney is not this any more. I think we should have something like this on the channel so all the new kids could see what we watched.
The soundtrack for the "Waltz of the Flowers" used for this TV special isn't the original 1940 Stokowski soundtrack. It's the 1982 newly re-recorded digital soundtrack to "Fantasia" in which Irwin Kostal conducted the orchestra rather than Stokowski, the one that was withdrawn after audiences didn't like it. You can tell by the harp cadenza, it's just not the same as on the original 1940 soundtrack.
I can't believe I'm seeing this again!!!! All I had was a VHS of "A Christmas Gift" since I lost my dubbed Disney Channel copy from the 80's. THANK YOU, DTVzone!!!! I wish they'd release this on Blu Ray or iTunes for the new generation.
From all of us to all of you a Very Merry Christmas. For all this bright and joyful night We're glad to have you with us. So gather round the lovely tree where all the lights are shining. You'll see how happy we will be why all the bells are chiming. Ding-dong, dingle. What a merry sound! Ding-dong, dingle. Kris Kringle is in town. From all of us to all of you it's good to have you with us. Now here we go and here's our show that sings "A Merry Christmas!" A very... Merry... Christmas!
I remember when this was first air in Scotland on Christmas Eve in 1988 on BBC 1 I think I still have it on VHS recorded but thanks for uploading it DTVzone
Even though it's basically a clip show, I LOVE this!! I have an original VHS recording from the very first time it aired in December 1983 and transferred it to DVD-R a few years ago, and I still watch it every year. Totally takes me back to when I was just 5 or 6 years old.
I believe it was released on video, but it was split in half for some reason, and each half was then padded out with segments that weren't in the original broadcast.
I love this christmas special! I wish there is a new disney channel with all the old classics like, Zorro, Mickey Mouse Club 50's 70's 90's , Walt DIsney Presents, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Chip & Dale, Pluto, Silly Symphonies, Raritys , Live Aticion Features and Shorts, Park rides and walkthroughs, and documentaries etc. I would LOVE that . . please , Disney LOUNCH a new Disney Channel with CLASSICS!!!!!!!!
@princessUSA2 I didn't mention the current Disney Channel crap (Hanna Montana and other garbage) being on my opinon. My opinon is to get the old disney channel back is have disney produce a new channel with the old stuff.
@mattjnor98 I'm sorry, I'm not a good writer as well as a bad speller. What I've meant to say "Disney Launch a NEW Disney Channel with the CLASSICS!!!!!!!!" :(
@voicetalentBrendan I'd like to see that happen, too. They could call it 'Disney Classics' or something like that, tantamount to Boomerang and the Canada channel Teletoon Retro.
I recorded about 2/3 of this in 1988, though it stopped at the beginning of Mickey's Good Deed. A decade later I attempted to rerecord the special so I'd have the full thing at a slower speed, but by then the Disney Channel had commercials. As a result, it cuts out midway through the Night Before Christmas. I do have the ending scene on another tape though.
I have an *old* Beta tape with this recorded on it. The quality has degraded to being simply deplorable, so it's wonderful to see it again in such great quality.
It's quite a magical special, probably my favorite of all the ones you have posted - and that says a whole lot! Thank you, DTVzone. Never change.
Merry Christmas guys. God bless us, everyone.
