I miss the Safeway block. They ruined it with a badly placed speed bump. I saw Jason Adams make a long super bright spark on a 50 50 there. I also remember Salman and Shawn playing skate for Sodas, or was it Snapple? Great fun days.
Nice 1, awsome guy, used to have his deck on real. the 1 with him wearing a pair of fairy wings, with a wand in his hand, looking proper moody :). True innovator of switch, not to mention innovator of trousers that don't quite reach your shoes!!
awesome..you said it, a major pioneer of switch, not to mention all those late shove it type moves. I remember skating some of those spots back in the early 90's, Leland high school curb. Spencer Fujimoto was there or at Embarcadero, the Santa Cruz warehouse. Oh my..too much fresh stuff right here. 'nollie 180 kick flip - switch kickflip - switch nose manual on the pic nic table'..yikes.. praise god.
Thanks for sharing your memories man, sounds like some good times! Spencer's a sick skater. Sw nosemanual on a bench in 93 impress's me big time. I would love to see him and Brian Lotti do some more stuff like 1st & Hope that was a cool film.
now whatever happened to Shaun Mandoli? ..wasn't he on that Think 'Missing Children' board waaay back when with Carl Watson (my friend ..with a K actually), nick lockman, and sam smythe?! who remembers those days?!
The Charles Barkley of Skateboarding!!! I somehow never got to see this ! This part was really thorough. Straight-up leading the pack for back then! Salman was the first pro with a massive switch ollie, and did sw. flips even before Rodney Mullen. He is also widely accepted as the first skater to ever grind switch. So now you know kids!!!!
You are a fucking idiot. The reason people skate switch is for the challenge alone. Not to mention you can make switch stuff just as, if not more stylish than regular skating. Nothing better than when a punk kid does some weak little trick and another dude comes and does it way better switch. Kill yo self!
I heard a rumor that the reason salman was so good at switch was cause he had originally started skating goofy and later corrected himself and started skating regular.
Years ago in an interview Salman said that he kept hurting his pushing ankle(right ankle) so in order to lessen the pain and keep skating he just learned to skate/push switch with his healthy ankle.
I think the interview is in the Thrasher skater of the year issue from 93 or whichever year he won.
Yeah! That's what I'm talkin' about! Awesome stuff! It should be noted that the music track for this video is none other than Mr. Phil Keaggy on the lead electric guitar (and scat singing) solo from his song 'Time' recorded live 1977 in Sacramento or Redding, CA while on tour with The 2nd Chapter of Acts for their album 'How The West Was One'. Band is: Peter York: rhythm guitar, Herb Melton: bass, Gene Gunnels: drums, Richard Souther: keyboards.
Thats cool man! Yeah Sals the man.SOTY 1993 and well deserved.Hes still around nowadays too which is rad.His Black Label stuff a while ago was gnarly as fuck. Now hes at the berrics a lot. Good shit SalMAN!
could you not ruin the video with the jesus stuff at the end... save yourself not me.

His style was so solid too, pretty much no one had the kind of power that he did at that time. The song is sick as fuck too.

Was most likely true. Ali Boulala started skating regular then goofy apparently, never had that confirmed though.
