Amazing guitar player

I am fairly certain he is an American, who is not a nobody and think he was a very well known guitarist from New Orleans who once had a record contract and backed up some of the best rock icons of the late 70's and 80's and I assume had a life the goes with it before he dropped out of society and and wound up on the streets of Paris, due to his addictions. He played with all of the great southern blues greats form ZZ top to SRV.
