  • this is 3 over 2 isn't it?

  • Hey Jared, what is your kit ?

  • Can u play a 3 4 polyrhythm in 4/4 time with the hi hat on click?

  • @jaskajr Well, if you did that it'd be the same as doing the hi hat in 3/4 along with the rhythm, if you're just doing quarter notes that is

  • check this out... i learned about this in hs... so i went home and started messing around. now im doing this and reversing it to "6 over 4" (alternating) its GREAT to keep it going around the kit.

sit down and use the real technical as fills but keep the groove going, i like to add lots of heritas, ghosts notes, and triplet tom/bass fills (bonham triplets) as well as quads... great fun. thanks for the vid!

  • Ok i might sound stupid but would someone tell me is there 2 different time signatures going on does the 4 mean 4/4 and the 6 mean 6/4. What i'm trying to say is there 4 quater beats playing against 6 quaters beats in a bar. Am i right or wrong?

  • So basically, your left hand is doing Quarter Note Triplets?

  • at the beginning sounds like DOWN WITH SICKNESS

  • @parasite626 This is much more complicated than Down With The Sickness O.o

  • This is also the rhythm for "Carol Of The Bells"

  • Nick Swardson plays drums?!

  • hahaha this guy reminds of the guy from forgetting sarah marshall who just got married and hes not good at sex. nah but forreals, this guys hella good at drumming.

  • Hey, maybe a little tip. Maybe you could show just a little piece of what it will become before you begin the lesson. Like you're things by the way!

  • =[ I can only do this with the opposite hands.

  • i saw this out of the world polyrhythm that i saw in a clinic of virgil donati, left hand and left leg plays double paradiddle starting with the foot with the left leg on high hat pedal and left hand on snare, right and right foot play single paradiddle starting with the foot, right foot on bass drum, right hand on floor tom

  • @abhimuscat virgil donati is a master i would never try to recreate something he plays, its impossible for ordinary humans =[

  • what snare is that? btw the 10 or 12 tom is not properly tuned... it has way less resonance than the rest.. i dont wanna a be a douche or anything.. just constructive critcism ;)

  • what snare is that? btw the 10 or 12 tom is not properly tuned... it has way less resonance than the rest

  • what snare is that?

  • ok this is really confusing me. you're playing triplet on your left hand, but you're playing a shuffle pattern on your right hand. But isn't a shuffle pattern in triplet just without the middle triplet note? so that means both hands are in a triplet timing? i am really confused

  • @ihaveabox you probably figured this out already, but this is what's going on:

I put the polyrhythm as 3:2. Three being the primary rhythm, and two being the secondary (so we're working in 3/4). You can count it in 6, but it will be 6:4.

    The polyrhythm looks like this ~ (1) - 2 (&) - 3

    One hits 1, 2, 3

    (Secondary) hits 1 and & of 2

Instead of hitting the secondary flatly, he hits with a shuffle. So it's a triplet missing the middle on 1 and & of 2, and not just playing shuffles each beat.

  • Dude, I have a lot of respect for what you're doing. But honestly, everything from the "tick tock" thing and on totally lost the shuffle feel. I understand that these other beats are AWESOME for fills and occasional reworkings of the feel, but I think I like the practical uses a little better. Still, an awesome video. I play plenty of polyrhythms (5 over 4, 3 over 4, 4 over 7, 5 over 6), but I haven't learned any shuffles. Maybe that should be my next goal.

  • I love the way you explain what you are doing!!! You are a great profesor.

  • Jared is my hero!

  • I think I've heard this beat on a christmas song (played by T.S.O)

  • My brain is ripping into two piece thinking about playing this, but I still want to do it.

  • What confuses people is that thay try to keep TWO rhythms in the head at the same time, while you have to count 4 and "feel" 3 on top, but keep it 4

  • this lesson make me crazy.

  • cool

  • I heard this beat on an awesome.

This beat sounds totally cool wit that song

  • Incredible drum sound!

  • wow thats crazzy hard for me, i guess im pretty new at the drums still, any way thinks for the free lessons i have watched many of your lessons on your web sit and i always look forward to your emails. aaaa this is so hard u make it look easy! thinks again for the videos!

  • what type of cymbals are those? they sound amazing!

  • wow man, messin with my head!! haha, i'm practising though!

  • Polyrythmics is my weak point, thank you so much for improving it :)

    suddenly it's easy

  • Good coordination exercise!

  • That kit with an additional china would be my dream kit. Great lesson as well.

  • @wowrazzor That is next on my list. The cymbals are just so dang expensive :)

  • @freedrumlessons arent u endorsed??

  • @freedrumlessons aren't you guys sponsored though?

  • @Patrickdrums6732 Yes, we are endorsed by Evans Drum heads.

  • whoow hand and foot independence

  • gooooood shiiit!!!

  • @beatleguy64 you know nothing about free drum lessons.com website, do you?

  • @paduajoseph actually i do. i know that the secret lessons are emailed to people that have signed up for them. it's a way of getting people on their mailing list. yes i was emailed about this but it's still on a public website. doesn't look very "secretive" to me.

  • @beatleguy64 The lesson resources are only available to members and people who are on the Secret Lesson list...

    7osh

  • I will wear Volcom every time I drum now :3

  • What mics do you use? And what recording program do you use?

  • Jared is one of the best! Bright future man, thanks for it all.

  • Cant wait to try this

I think if I try this with my band I will get fired but its great for practice to get the hands and feet working thanks

then again with the right groove it could be cool

    Make the Bass player crazy

  • im soo confused cause i did this naturally str8 up ... what type of style is it cause im good at it :P but suck at easy stuff

  • this a song from christmas , I just don't remember which....

  • @timemachinedrummer Carol of the Bells...

  • Pretty sweet, and NO you didn't look like an idiot!! We appreciate you teaching us!!

    5/5

  • Not secret any more BWA HA HA HA HA!

  • This would sound better faster. Like The Dillinger Escape Plan.

  • jared what the hell where are all the live videos and new lessons. and dont say the drums system online imma broke ass drummer, with no stable income. what the deal

  • I could watch this all day long. Thanks (:

  • what tom and bass mics do you use?

  • @beastlyninja1 the tom mics are Sennheiser E604, bass drums is either and Audix D6 (my favorite) or a shure beta52,

  • This is an awesome beat, though I knew it from earlier. It's in an Amon Amarth song (Where is Your God) but the opposite (6 on hi-hat/4 on snare). I really like it, and it sounds awesome if you put some double pedal in 16th triplets.

  • 301

  • I'm not into drums I'm into tutorials and this is great! your videos can be over 15 mins long now so don't worry well you probably already know that by now!

  • what kind of in ears are those?

  • I practiced stuff like this for a while before my band rehearsel. The guitar players hated it, as I played the weirdest stuff afterwards. It was hard for me to get out of that zone that quick.

  • this sounds like a typical south Indian beat :)...nice stuff

  • that bass drum sounds like your hitting a piece of meat

  • it sounds sticky :/

  • Love polyrhythms! They offer so many cool sonic possibilities!

Stewart Copeland used this shuffle vibe in Walking On The Moon.

Thanks for the lesson J! ;-)

  • is this just me or isnt the sheet music out jet

  • Brilliant teaching. You are so good at explaining!

    Thanks alot for these videos.

  • The very first beat he did in this video, is the first beat i ever did on my drum set when i was 8.

  • omg first and what kind of kit is that! it looks and sounds amazing! GREAT VIDEO! :D
