Nathalia from Antonio Lauro from Venezuela. the waltz was dedicated to her daughter Nathalia who believe it or not always had a crush on my older brother because the master Antonio Lauro lived in the same area where I lived in Caracas called El Cafetal. My brother was an student of Antonio Lauro very outstanding and he also knew Chet Atkins and collected some of his albums since he was teen-ager.
Caribben Guitar and Teensville are my favorite albums by the great Chet Atkins. Caribbean Guitar obviously required the highest skill and feel for the music, which was far outside his normal playing style.
>>a Venezuelan waltz called NATALIA by Antonio Lauro<<
Sorry all, Juan has it right. This composition is Natalia by A. Lauro. For some reason RCA renamed it for the album (Carribean Guitar), not the other way around. Listen to any number of recordings of this piece by solo virtuoso guitarists (Manuel Barrueco for one) are you can see easily that there is no need for overdubbing.
It's one thing to tackle this song on a classical guitar with confidence but I can't imagine playing this tune on an electric as Chet did here. It just goes to show you that the man could play any style on any guitar he wanted to with total confidence.
Please, this is not any Mayan Dance. This is a venezuelan waltz called NATALIA composed by maestro Antonio Lauro that has rounded the world. Chet Atkins really knew the song and became fascinated and recorded for Caribbean Album. Sting also has recorded and played it. Correct that!!!
@daffydoug yea this is definitely Mayan Dance by Antonio Lauro played by Chet Atkins and has also been played Marcel Dadi who I believe transposed it to guitar for Lauro. Juanunderground is as wrong as wrong can be.
@EricNos24 I know. Isn't it crazy? People come on my channel and try to correct me about what I know to be facts because I take the information directly off of the Chet album covers. Geeeesh. There's a nut in every crowd.
Concluding, no matter where he learned it, or his spin, RustyBurns1 is right: One time, one guitar. Strings may have been overdubbed later, but that's one take, & a beautiful, timeless one at that.
Okay, there was a Chet Atkins guitar festival in 1971 held in Knoxville. There were two divisions, "electric" & classical. I was one of the six contestants in "electric". Funny thing is the kid that won it played "The Claw" on classical. Cutting to the chase, I came in LAST. It was quite a few years later that I mentioned it to Chet & I got a substantial snicker out of him.
Prior to the contest there we at least 2 classical gtrsts there playing Mayan Dance NOTE FOR NOTE as Chet.
I think he plays it with 2 different guitars. One doing simpler stuff, one doing more complex. But I also don't doubt he could do both, so I'm not sure.
Oh no, I didn't mean to imply he would use tricks. It's like daffydoug said, it sounds like 2 different guitarists are playing. Only the greatest can do that. One guy visited my college who could, and I was just amazed, although he wasn't into as good of a style as Chet was.
great post daffydoug! this tune is off an an old chet album from the early sixties called caribbean guitar. he wears this one out..maestro style. think i still got it on vinyl somewhere. tx a lot havent heard this one in a while.

@cce0454 Oh. OK. But as I said, the only thing I have to go on is what I take directly off the album cover. So I'm innocent.

@juanunderground Correct it? Then I would have to correct Chet, too, because I took the title directly off the album cover!
I don't make 'em up. I just report 'em.

tdawgheath -- I saw him do it when I was a very young man and believe me he plays both parts simultaneously...truly an amazing virtuoso.

Back in the 1940's Chet was on the radio, and people often commented. :"That Chet guy is pretty good, but who is the other guy playing with him?"
