Oh it definitely does. Do you own one of these cars? Maybe on a 95-99 it'd be loud, but the 2000-2001 models have 2 precats, only 1 of which is deleted by the y-pipe. If I had gone with full header/y-pipe then yes, it'd be loud as hell. Stock cat, stock resonator, and a superturbo muffler that is chambered (not a straight-through flow design) results in a lower, quieter sounder. The car now has a Borla Thumper on it with no resonator. Not much louder, but has more of a "loping" sound.

if its a fed spec car, then the y pipe deletes both precats if i remember right on all vq30 maximas. cali spec only one or maybe even non at all are deleted. but y would the year matter? 4th gens and 5ths got the same engine.

4th and 5th do not have the same exact engine. same block but different heads and cams. Redline went up 250 RPM, .9 higher compression ratio, and it is a cali spec, only deletes 1 precat. I'm telling you, it's the muffler/main cat that tones it down so much. I have this account or my other. I'll try to post a new video of the borla/resonator delete.

heads were not different. only the variable intake and the plastic plenum vs the cast iron one on my '97 GLE were the differences for the VQ. show me the facts about the heads and the compression ratio, i've never heard that in all my maxima years.
