  • $50 a week is what Archie makes (3:47)??

Even if you measure that for inflation, that's like $270 a week in today's value.

How can you live off that?!

  • @shimatetsuo2019 back then everything was cheap in cost and prices, not like todays living

  • @bigger4life: Even after inflation?

Back then, $1 would buy the same items $5.50 would buy today. So when Edith is talking about her chicken being $.29\lb, she means $1.60 worth today. Which is pretty much what it does go for at the grocery store down the block.

I had not considered that Archie was talking about his take-home pay. So $270/wk net take-home for blue-collar labor makes sense in today's dollars; especially with their higher tax-brackets and stagflation back then.

  • @shimatetsuo2019 ...ain't that the truth!

  • Best show ever!!!

  • Where is veronica if i'm archie

  • I love sweet, innocent Edith. "He's more of a pecker". THAT was a GREAT line!!!

  • Check out Gloria's platform shoes. Ah, the seventies!

  • Mike: You could never do what I did today.

Archie: Oh, yeah? What was you doing?

    Mike: Thinking.

    So true. :)

  • $41.30 for (3) days pay

  • Archie reminds me of my father. Stubborn

  • edith looks like stevie janowski from eastbound and down tah!

  • thanks for uploading all these shows. Sitcoms these days arent nearly as funny

  • "Archie came right down when he found out he might go to prison"!!!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!

  • "He's more of a pecker"!!!! LMAO!!!

  • "He's more of a pecker"!!!! LMAO!!!

  • Put a hula skirt on it. Ha Ha Ha Ha

  • Just watched the show in '1911' mode. LOL

  • Luv this show

  • @4everliam Mike was certainly not gay. He got ALLOT of tail before he met Gloria.

  • mike the meathead is such a fag

  • O'Connor looks like he was about to crack-up laughing at 2:51 !!

  • I love archie, but he can be a real jerk sometimes... a bowl of cereal over some homemade chicken? really dude?

  • TV Shows are just not this good anymore....Best tv writing and acting in history

  • Nixon did remove the Gold Standard from the dollar. For folks that don't know, that's why you hear so much about inflation in shows created during this time frame. Partly, it's why we still have to grapple with keeping it under control now. Some of that fault belongs with the Fed. And that's another kettle of fish altogether. lol

  • I cannot believe the numbers they cite! Gloria is ecstatic about bringing home a $41 pay check, and Archie is worried about losing a $5 dependent forgiveness on his taxes! Mike has no concept of the Constitution, however. The First Amendment specifically separates church and state, therefore, churches cannot be taxed. Besides, most churches (the cults aside) spend so much more in terms of charity, education and medical care. Chicken, 29 cents a pound, hamburger 98 cents! Yikes!

  • @ligreekguy You're right! If you want separation of church and state (which we should), you can't tax churches. Can't have it both ways.

  • @yesorlando05

    Very good point!

  • they use beer for hair though

  • Carol O'Connor's facial expressions/reactions to Edith are priceless.

  • Why does he "have" to have shoes on in the house? That's usually the first thing I do when I get home is take off my shoes!

  • @aushorecm For some strange reason, back then people awoke and fully dressed, shoes and all just to sit around the house, just like they do on this show. I never do that. Sometime I bed out all day in my jammies.

  • @aushorecm My Mother would throw anything she could reach if i stepped in the house with my shoes on. Shoes are not suppose to be worn indoors since we step on too much shit

  • I believe the yellow can is just a fictional non descript brand. In the first season it was a white can I believe, though there were many things that were different in that first season. This episode I believe is from season 2, a magical season. For me everything from season 1-4 is gold. It gets spottier in the later years though there is great dramatic work done by Stapleton and O'Connor. And the "pecker" line is one of the great bring the house down lines in AITF history.

  • "He's more of a pecker." That's GREAT!!!!! CLASSIC. We'll never see this kind of stuff on American TV again.

  • EDITH!, WHERE ARE YA?

  • you oughta run for president yahself... in poland

  • isn't it weird that we are still dealing with the tax issues in this country... take from the rich and give to the poor....

  • @ilovepvd I Agree i am poor i need more free money now Give

  • "What you do??Bend your library card"...Mike's face is priceless...LMAO:)

  • chicken .29 a pound wow, LOL

  • The 70's....

  • @blamaxwell Wish we had those prices today, y'know?

  • @blamaxwell it was back then, everything was real cheap in prices

  • @blamaxwell

That sounds pretty mind-boggleing to me!

  • 2:43--WAHT DID SHE SAY?!

  • slobberer lol

  • I think the pecker gag line from Edith was meant as an innocent remark on her part, meaning he pecks her on the cheek. But of course Archie seemed embarrassed & disgusted, and the audience broke out in laughter because of the double entendre in that remark.

  • @shootinair What I think Archie's look really is, is Carroll O'Connor cracking up and covering for it.

  • @shootinair Yep, you're right. Her innocent remark and not realizing the double meaning. That's what made the remark soooooooooo funny!

  • @Srd1126

"Pecker" - one who pecks. a peck is a quick, soft kiss.

  • 2:36

  • "You're father was never much of a slobberer, he's more of a pecker!"

    LOL

  • "Since Nixon." LOL. Look at the prices now...

  • Archie: "Look at the meat-head, he's turning into a chicken-head!"

  • Mynjunkyard thanks so much for posting these videos. I really appreciate it. I havn't seen these in 15 years!

  • what brand of beer does archie drink? Orange can? I realize it might be fictional. They used to do a lot of fictional drinks for shows in those days. Any hardcore aitf fans know?

  • Don't know if it has an orange can or not, but in the episode "Archie's Chair" he mentioned that he drank Schlitz. That would be a great episode to be posted!

  • He drinks the same brand Oscar Madison does.

  • Fictional brand, before product placement happened brands had to be what they call "greeked" so say Stroh's would not be mad if the show they advertised on had a big can of Miller on the screen.

  • "He's more of a pecker." Hahahahaha!!!

  • @jasondh22 -- That was a classic line!

  • I don't care if you put a hula skirt on it, it's nothing but a chicken! lol

  • $41.30 not bad for three days worth of work. Imagine those days.
