  • DAFDC#DEF !! Can you hear it?

  • Are there any string performances of this piece?

  • @ApollosPlayground

Search in youtube, you will find.

  • @ApollosPlayground Yes, type in contrapunctus 9 Emerson Quartet.

  • Historians declare that yes, there may have been, but it is unkown and was most likely performed on organ or harpsichord.

  • Historians declare that yes, there may have been, but it is unkown and was most likely performed on organ or harpsichord. There is not enough evidence.

  • If only the performer could have used a ZOOM Q3 to record this...

  • I took this piece to state with a brass quintet in Texas. It's a really fun song to piece together!

  • please use just a plenum on flute base!

  • Oh my God he has an pedal at his front and don't use it!!!!

    It'd be a lot easier.

  • to cmtmusik: it was not common to use the pedal when it wasn't extra notated, so it's not wrong to play it without pedal

  • Bad quality but nice playing.

  • Slightly too fast. The melodies merge with the reverb echo into a sound pap.

  • Very impressive interpretation, although I think you should have pulled less stops - it sounds a bit too "thick" for my ears. But maybe this is just a matter of taste, I don't know... are you studying music or is it just a hobby?

  • this is the right tempo for this piece

  • Very nice instrument and speed. The resonance of the room gets in the way just a tiny bit once the music gets really involved, but you handle it well.

  • It sure was alot of fun to watch!!! I had a Ball!! Perrrfictkats Florida

  • EXELENTE!!

  • Excellent execution!

  • Great! Loved the phrasing and the way the fugue melody was delineated. Also, congratulations on maintaining the speed and not making it sound like a big train wreck. If you get a chance, try it on one of the French symphonic organs (Cavaille-Coll). The works sound almost new.

  • Thanks, beautiful. But, although playable by two hands only, shouldn't the lowest stave be in the feet?

  • He did use his foot on the last note.

  • Why?

  • I just thought so. Wouldn't it make it easier to make that fourth voice 'stand out'? (I'm not an organist, so please explain why not..)

  • I'm not sure it is desirable to make the 4th part of this fugue stand out.

But I agree that if he could play it on the pedal, he could make it stand out with a pedal registration that includes both 8' and 16' stops.

And his hands would have an easier task playing only 3 parts instead of 4.

But could his feet manage the running 8 notes of the 4th part at this tempo?

Gould et al have recorded AofF on organ, using the pedal here and there.

  • Playing the pedal part throughout would turn this from merely a relatively hard piece to a virtuoso piece. Way too much work, IMO.

However, for the original theme (the one in whole notes), playing it in the pedals is reasonable. That's what I'm planning to do ... and probably the bass part at the end, too.
