Ubuntu is horrible. Buggy, ugly and commercialized; Ubuntu One and a music store. Great. If they had made their own distro from scratch I could still have a little respect for Canonical. Living as parasites on Debian and ripping off their code every six months is a different matter.
Not much different from 9.10. 9.10 is AMAZING. Gnome Do and compiz spaces give a mac like look and feel too. Wobbly windows rocks. Games on Ubuntu need a bit of work though. Solitaire in Windows 7 is so cool. Game auto-does a lot of unnessary repetitive steps. Ubuntu needs a bit of work on Games.
IMHO, Ubuntu gets worse with every release. 9.10 brings PulseAudio, which makes it unusable with my soundcard. Removing it is a pain in the ass and fails in most cases. 10.4 will come without GIMP (well, it's not that good anyway) and will come with the unstable open source driver "Nouveau" for nvidia graphic cards.
Bad decisions. Well, I have to admit, the overall speed and the interface is amazing, though.
@ArborVitalis Yeah ubuntu is much faster than Windows 7. I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7425 running Ubuntu 9.10 and it is very fast and stable. This laptop I have has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor running at 1.7 GHz, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160 GB SATA Hard Drive, and I am running a 32-bit OS of ubuntu. I had Windows 7 and it would use like 600 MB to video edit and would use 1 GB to use Vegas Pro. Do you know of any video editing software for linux>
@080594M127 Hm.. good question, I had never used a video editor in Ubuntu... but after a google search I found Kdenlive: it has Multitrack and Timeline.
@canape256 - no matter how you put it out, you will probably never understand it, because you're not sophisticated enough, so I'm just going to say one simple thing, which your tiny little brain can interpret as words of the most simplest form possible, which you can then hopefully understand...

I thought the desktop was supposed to look totally different. Or was that just wishful thinking on my part?

Ubuntu wasn't made for gamers.

The only issue I have with Ubuntu is slight compatibility. But besides that I love it. I dual boot it on my Windows 7 laptop. :)
