  • They don't write 'em like that anymore!!!

  • phrak yes when we were kids great song great band and now that i am younger then than know even more better they song sounds so pretty to me

  • Dires straits, the best band of the rock of all times!

  • this song is unbelievable! No words can express how i feel right now! i'm gonna listen it again and again till i faint...

  • FANTASTIC!!!!

  • I just spent an entire evening with a beer and a gigantic smile on my face and my eyes closed listening to this solo and will be doing that again tomorrow evening.

  • I think we can successfully draw a line under music after that

  • the finale was... orgasmatic.

  • I wanna watch a film, go to bed.... but I can't do anything, because I can't stop listening to Dire Straits and Mark!!

  • questa musica fa sognare.

    bellissima

  • Incredibile!!!!!!!gli ultimi 6 minuti sono un orgasmo totale.........un'opera d'arte grazie di esistere Mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A big THANK YOU to DogSwede1. Brothers in Arms tour 1985. Wembley Arena and I was there! My first ever gig. Postal ticket application (remember them?!) got me thirteen rows from the front and what a night it was. Tunnel of Love has been my favourite song down the years, probably as a consequence of hearing this first live performance. Keyboards and lighting effect at approx. 6 minutes 30 seconds still gives me goosebumps - it doesn't get much better than this. Simply spectacular!

  • OMG. I'm having goosebumps everywhere!

  • In my opinion Dire Straits is one of the best bands in the history of music. Every song they create is a musical masterpiece. This song is a good a good example of that, with good and soulfull guitar play accompanied by a fantastic vocal.

  • And just like that an Epic moment of rock history was written with the Dire Straits signature.

  • Mark Knopfler was born by a guitar...Not by his mom!!

    Huge Respect!!! \o>

  • Just amazing! Every time I listen I wish it never ends! :)

  • absolutly amazing stuff brings a tear to my eye even after what 30 years .... how many bands have you seen who are better live than the studio takes?

MK is god .... the best no debate required or accepted.

  • @pictaker69 Better live: Dire Straits and Steve Winwood, that's about it.

  • mamma mia!!!

  • One of the greatest guitar solos ever!!

  • I hate people who says that Mark Knopfler is God. Yes, he may be pretty good, but not like Knopfler.

  • Often a guitar solo is like a powerful scream in the night. But this one is a sweet, alluring voice whispering at your heart, slowly taking control of you. And there's nothing more beautiful than letting it do that.

  • Most epic performance of most awesome guitar solo...

  • When I heard for the first time in '81 those guitar notes that kick in at 1:53 my life would have never been the same again.

  • Breathtaking . . . Absolutely breathtaking . . . If this doesn't touch your soul, you don't have one.

  • @mando3b words of GOD

  • @mando3b you're so fucking right

  • Beautiful guitar playing, so moody, emotive and atmospheric; I love the way the solo builds ever so slowly. Knopfler is a true genius, the master of his instrument. Amazing, simply amazing.

  • I was there in 85, best concert ever.

  • I'd like to kill the bastard motherfuckers that clap their hands while Knopfler plays his guitar. They have a brain full of shit.

  • Avidbookreader what you say is so true friend if mine introduced me to it a little while ago and I'm hooked I can't stop watching it and playing it. It's such an incredible sound which you just dont hear today. Like you say you just cannot put in to words how good it is.

  • This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen!!!

  • @pordlands Yeah, for me as well.;)

My thesaurus doesn't have enough words to describe how I feel about this amazing song, about this incredible version. It still sends crazy shivers up and down my spine even after a thousand times listening to/watching this. (listening to it with headset on right now. High volume.:D)

  • I can listen to this music for eternity. DIRE STRAITS FOR LIFE

  • See the hammerons slides and the guitar melody. Mk must be an alien, there is no human play a guitar live so well

  • like the spanish city to me when we were kids...

    tear-maker... love you mark!

  • Who could possibly find fault with this? THIS IS PERFECTION!!!!

  • 1 person is an idiot

  • @pwaters31 He's just jealous of Dogswede1 :p

  • How does he get that sound on the guitar on this bridge, it is to kill for I'd love to hear them jam in rehearsals, this real music, the improvisation is exquisit

  • It's funny how Mark create his solos. Most other players would choose a key lick, and shred around it. But he takes you on a journey.

  • Bored of studying Shakespeare at school, we should study Mark Knopfler :D

  • This song is one of my daily meals. A main course actually. So rich and tasty.

I can skip the other Juicy and meaty courses. But not this delicious-est meal.^^

  • A musical journey, A masterpiece. I love it.

  • Mark, you always take my breath away. I love you.

  • this is what I call music , very Beautiful

  • I still have this concert on VHS recorded from TV when it was on 'The Tube' in 85 or 86 (now transferred to DVD to preserve it!) This song (& this version?) may just be the pinnacle of Dire Straits illustrious career.. The last few minutes in particular, are wonderful.. knopfler, Williams etc are incredible, but how good is Alan Clark on Piano..?! Best Pianist/Hammond Organ/Keyboard player I've ever heard.! Oh & one last thing, the Alchemy version is pretty special as well..!

  • I shed a tear everytime I hear this song!

  • One against 133

I'll think we should win :p

  • Wow. I come back to this particular song,Tunnel of Love, about once every year (the live version from the album "Alchemy" is my favorite). Greatest guitar solo. Ever. Brings tears to my eyes every time. The older I get, the more beautiful and significant it becomes. I swear to God -- somehow, Knopfler has captured the meaning of life in that solo. Joy. Sadness. Beauty. Loss. Memory. Mystery. But most of all, Hope.

  • @Heavy1636 no more left to say.... i agree in all points....

  • that´s fantastic stuff

  • Oh I wish so much I was there to be part of this fabulous moment of music.

  • Wow, another wonderful gem from Mark. Kept me in chills through both parts. Thank you, thank you for posting, This is my new favorite, but each one is my favorite!!

  • "Ohhhhhh-la......Hmmmmmm.........a pretty Spanish city when we were kids. This wonderful jewel never grows old. Thanks for posting !

  • One slipped note and this beautiful creation would fall.

Mercifully, no chance....what a fantastic evocative accomplishment.

Hats also tipped to the superb ,master, supporting musicians....Mark..well enough said.

  • my god, the memories...reminds me of this passed summer, when Mark Knopfler came to Perugia to play in front of the Umbria Jazz's crowd and i was there singing along to his masterpieces...good times, time of my life...

  • the best just the best

  • How he does it is beyond my understanding, but he does it. He is one with his guitar and there are no words powerful enough describe the feeling of the sound.

  • DAMN I was born to late :(

  • this is the definitive version for me a geordie boy as i well remember the town moor and spanish city the song takes you along as if on a fairground ride .

  • @SlothCalledSid Did you notice a young Alex(hurricane)Higgins r.i.p. on the dodgem car from 0.44 to 0.50? I think it was Christmas night, 1987 on Channel 4 when i seen this for the first time and could'nt believe it was him. I wish they would release it on dvd also, i wore my vhs copy out a long time ago.

  • takes me back to my teens and town moor and the rides getting faster and faster all the while magnificent performance i wish live in 85 could or would be re- released

  • One of the few reason to live.

His fingers, his Heart, his mind, his World.

  • Brilliant, I have been listening to and playing guitar for years and have never truly heard some one play with such emotion. You can tell when someone is just showing off or being self-indulgent but you can really feel the emotion behind every single note, just... amazing!

  • why dont people make music like this anymore? sheer genuis.

  • the best song i have heard ever- guitar +vocal+backing+bass+rythmn+drums etc...

  • EPIC!

  • best solo ever...

  • ...watches again...stands up....applauds loudly....wishes he were back in 1985.

  • Honestly, has there ever been a more natural guitar player than MK, who is so fluid, has such a great touch, great feel, and makes it look so easy!!

  • @qjamesfloyd Only one who maybe comes close is Lindsey Buckingham!!

  • ....And he doesn't even break a sweat.

  • I haven't seen this since the night I watched it ont telly many years ago. Surely one of the tightest bands ever to hit a stage. This is up there with E-street.

  • BEAUTIFUL thank you so much and fuck all the music of today i wish i grew up back then if i hear one more rihanna song or other shit immm going to kill my self but not before i listen to this song

  • I love how shity modern rock is. for all i care Nickelback can go and die, but this, this is absolutely amazing

  • the best song!

  • Mark Knopfler-Guitar Genius

  • that was amazing

  • I had this on video from 1985 and lost it, thanks for posting. One of Marks most soulful songs, look at his emotion and the backdrop of the fairground in the 70's. Remember it all so well. No other song gets this treatment in the concert, obviously from the heart. Still sends me when I watch it.

    Thanks once again.

  • Sharing is caring :)

  • Goosebumps! Every time

  • That Schecter strat is my favourite of all the DS/MK guitars. Something's just so right about that DS era. Thanks for posting this gem!

  • ..... Beautiful, there is nothing else to say.

  • Thank you babe

  • Incredible guitar...it sounds so melancholic and beautiful

  • one of my favorites

  • AWESOMEEEEEE!!!!111
