brown as it's youth's curly hair

many a tale she'd shared, never examining the stitching around the edges.

A summer storm.

blackberry bushes growing wild in the country

not bending to the wind

rain dropping from vine and thorns

the spider's web struggling to set itself free, the spider already safe somewhere else.

Lightning in a fireweed sky

God's coal delivered to it's vast empty darkness,dumped on darkened doorsteps.

A silence above which nothing can be heard, tumult, powerful and restless, gentleness.

It stops sometime during the night

the old tree whose roots heave up the road

Mitch has been my friend for 22 years. I wish you could get him on camera sober, but he probably wouldn't do it. Nice to see him anywyay. He stayed with us in Seattle for a couple weeks this fall. He's a good poet. He has schizophrenia.
