According to an article I read, the negotiations for ACTA are to be concluded in 2010.
This whole treaty seems incredibly impractical. If I take my iPod to an airport, should I bring all the CDs from which I derived songs that I loaded onto my iPod just to prove that I didn't download the songs illegally?

To be fair, they aren't trying to keep these laws secret at all. You can read all about them on the net. Also it is true that the music and film industry would have NO customers if stricter laws were not created to prevent us from watching and listening to products for FREE. While I'm a big fan of Megavideo etc for personal use TODAY the quality of what we watch and listen to could only go DOWN if we all stop paying for ANYTHING the industry creates. They'll only search you at airports too!

The real key is simply for people to genuinely figure out what it is that makes them get up in the morning. America won World War II because the people in the USA had learnt to cooperate together en-masse better than any other nation in the world. No-one (not even Bush) in America is so stupid or short sighted as to create a situation which would result in popular revolution like the French Revolution. Therefore however "evil" any policies may seem if they go TOO FAR the powers know it'll fail.

I'm from norway. I was against the DMCA when I was 13. That was in 1998. It was not that the law would affect my right then and there, but I saw what was going to happen. I was 13 and I realized this. Why are grown up people so ignorant? In Norway, we have a Data Protection system, that will fight for the public right in computer privacy. But the government will try to overthrow them at some point in the future if people do nothing.
