  • Who planted that tree right in the way of seeing the landing?

  • nice, i would want too!

  • very impressive piloting.

  • smoooth.

  • Just like a sporting game of cricket. Well done young chaps.

  • 8 people are fabricators / structural fitters

  • would have been funny if the plane came to a stop, and the pilots ejected with the ejection seats

  • @operationcwaI789789 Just a FYI.The F-111 Does not have ejection "seats". The entire forward cockpit area is a modular capsule fired off with rockets. There are small control surfaces at the forward wing root area that give the capsule limited maneuvering capability. Needless to say the F-111 was an aircraft WAY ahead of it's time. Inertial navigation system, "swing wings", mach 2.5 + capability and terrain following radar all made this aircraft a pioneer in advanced aviation in the 1960's.

  • I was there doing a delivery to Amberly when this happened.... awesome to see it again.

Btw, that plane DID fly again, I saw her being repaired a month later while I was taking some sound proof doors to the base for a building extension that was being done, the hanger they were fixing her in was right next to where the building work was being done.

  • Beautiful example of an emergency landing. Definitely looks like, with just a little bit of work, that plane very easily could fly again as the cameraman said.

  • No, isn't only weight and a airplane that costed million dollars, that is a promotion.

hehe certainly he was promoted after that. =)

  • That was an astonishing bit of flying.

  • What would they've done if they crashed? Boo?

  • @stevenewyork

    Faggot.

  • Wow, hard to believe this was 3 years ago. I remember being at work and a workmate got a call this thing was flying around.

Just to resolve a few things here, the main wheel fell off on takeoff, the crew decided it would be better to land with gear up rather than with a missing wheel. The F111 was designed for carrier use, thats why it has a hook, but the US navy used the F14 instead. The F111 has been a fantastic aircraft, the best in it's field, the Super Hornet is a stop gap nothing more.

  • This is a RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) F-111, set to to retire in 2010. The USAF retired F-111 years ago (the last being EF-111's.

  • Very nice skills. I hope the jet was salvaged.

  • i membea this it was 7 top landing !

  • How the hell did the pilot do that - it almost looks like trick photography

  • Sounds like they're watching cricket! lol

  • 0:10 YES MATE

  • This is by far one of the best emergency landing videos on YouTube. Thanks for filming this! Also, the pilot, I believe, did a great job landing the aircraft safely.

  • Brilliant

  • Excellent video. Nicely held - that's flying skill alright, and also some good training. :)

  • Landing gear? Pffft! Just unnecessary weight and complication.

  • @butlerproman looooooool

  • A remarkably cool-headed, calm & collected, very-capable landing under emergency conditions. Good training & protocol really does pay off. The RAAF is one of the best-trained & capable flying outfits in the world. Go you Aussie Top Guns !!

  • And the RAF are the most best trained pilots in the world , or the HAF?

  • Can you do it better?

  • @allibowthepilot

The RAF doesn't fly F111s. That had to be an American pilot.

  • @19hobbes The RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) also flew F-111C's. They were set to retire in 2010. The USAF retired F-111 years ago (the last being EF-111's. I was a crew chief on the D model at Cannon AFB, NM from 1984-1987.

  • @19hobbes Australians did until recently.

  • @19hobbes Boy you have no idea what you are talking about. The RAAF has actually flown the F111 longer than the USAF.

  • @Robbob9933 As pointed out by several I completly forgot about the RAAF flying ardvarks. I'm pretty sure we (USAF) retired them after Desert Storm, around 1998. I used to enjoy watching them take off when I was at RAF Lakenheath in the mid 80s. We had the G varient there.

  • 0:17 KA BOOM nah jks fine plane its showing its age :( sad to see her go soon

  • Nice work!!!

  • good pilot

  • Brilliant landing

  • great skill..

  • that was a 10 for belly landing skills there. minimal damage. probably flying again in 60 days like it never happened.

  • Ha ha, trying to sound like a first string reporter but really didn't know what you were on about."the ah f111 attached to a cable that was ah........" was what? made of string? was pulled taught by 2 camels? ha ha

  • Top landing.

  • wonderful job!

  • Good job sir!

  • good job sir, do me a favour....

  • A.O.K

  • He did well there

  • That was a beautiful example of a wheels up landing - not sure beautiful is the right word. But that pilot did well!

  • omfg no landing gear what so ever!!! amazing!

  • hence the word "emergency" in the title

  • what?

  • woah i was replying to someone else but it went here.......hmmm damn computer

  • o ok

  • cool i was at RAF UPPER HEYFORD near Oxford in the early 80,s we had f111d and e,s the base is back in the brits hands

  • my brother worked on fb-111 when he was in the USAF

  • fucker he did it... lol jk

  • its amberley raaf base near ipswich qld

  • is that richmond raaf base?

  • nice landing

  • I don't understand why they don't fit wheels to those planes

  • i think they do but they just didn't come down

  • hahaha budget cuts

  • LMAO

    Gear failure FTL

  • actually the tire exploded on take off and they decided to do a belly landing cause it would be safer

  • It wasn't all that smooth really but not due to pilot input. That cable being grabbed by that hook at such speed really plopped it down hard. If the runway was long enough, I would have opted for a long slide instead.

  • Nowinseason......You are correct sir!

  • it touched down very smoothly

  • That idiot McNamara wanted the F-111 for the navy, but there is no way it could have operated effieciently off a carrier. I think that is why they designed the F-14, if I'm not mistaken.

  • best emergency landing i seen

  • second on that

  • Yeah, US retired them, then asked the RAAF to deploy them in Iraq. Maybe they should have kept them...

  • Old plane - US retired most of these 10 years ago.

  • Old Plane Indeed - Initially Designed in 1964 and in Australian service in 1973. I think the Australian Government has really let the nation down here - I mean how are we supposed to compete with a relatively obsolete bomber. Now they're screwing us over with the F-35 instead of the more capable F-22 Raptor. That and there are no aircraft carriers. Disgrace.

  • It wasn't a fake, on takeoff the wheel fell off, he was forced to either land it or eject, by instructions of pilots on the ground him and his navigator extended the tailhook and then belly landed it. No one was harmed, the pilot had only been flying F111s for 2 weeks. RAAF PRIDE

  • FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE

  • Couldn't he have just parachuted out?

  • Then that would be a waste of a jet, and they wouldn't know exactly why the landing gear failed to stay on.

  • because they wanted to save the multimillion dollar plane...would u wanna waste several million dollars?

  • Its interesting when ignorant people post pretending they know the best option lol

  • u talking about me?

  • This happened on an RAAF Training mission at the Amberley Airforce Base in Australia... Not Iraq. The pilot was a student under instruction when one of the rear wheels didn't retract. Big news at the time.

  • Yes, I understand. I knew it wasn't Iraq. I was simply comparing cost factors.

  • Pillock.

  • you do realise with a small repair job the aircraft can be in the air in a month, you ignorant shit.

  • U.S. planes

  • thats every rooki's dream to show off their skills and be a hero by doing something really cool.

  • Nice job. He should be ready for a carrier landing now.

  • But they don't have carriers.

  • Most military aircraft have a one-use tailhook for emergencies.

  • I know, I've had to taxi over the over-run wires at airports like Kansas City and Albuquerque.

  • wow really ur a retard... the tailhook isn't used for a one time deal most millitary planes have a tailhook because they are compatible with an aircraft carrier. short runways meen they have a tailhook to slow them down fast enough b4 they run off the side!

  • The F-111 is not a naval aircraft. In this case it is a one use hook. Just like the F-16, F-15... should I go on? By the way, I have been working on F-18's for 5 years so I know a thing or two about aircraft that are "compatible with aircraft carriers".

  • like i said b4 ur a friggn retard 1 time use bah might as well shoot urself in the head! Just because u think you have ballz to say you worked on f-18s doesn't make u a pro go work on ur models boy and leave the descussion's to the big boys that are actually navalaviators! friggn scrub if u even know what that means!

  • haha u didn't mention the F-111B???? it is a naval aircraft? read this "The F-111B was the naval version of the TFX fighter project, which had been decreed by Secretary of Defense McNamara to be designed in common with the Air Force version, even though the requirements were completely different. " Search for General Dynamics/Grumman F-111B

  • lol what are u an e-4 still bow down bitch

  • The F-111 was originally designed as a naval fleet defense fighter in the late 60's before the navy decided it was not appropriate as a carrier based fighter after carrier qualifications and instead went with the Grumman F-14 in the early 70's and the USAF showed interest in the F-111. Naval pilots also didn't like the F-111's side-by-side seating.

  • nice job but could he do it blindfolded?

  • Well done to the pilot for a safe and unexpected landing.

  • Yeah, nice landing by the Aussie Rookie pilot. Lost the landing gear and circled for a while burning off fuel.

  • Nice video, saw this on ten news the other night.
