Is there a role for violence in the struggle for socialism?

Nowadays the question begs to be asked: when does violence stop being violence and start being self defense? I could talk about this all day, but I only have 500 characters so let me just say it: yes, I think violence, or self defense rather, not only has a place but is vital. But, going out onto the street and smashing bank windows will not change a thing. Not only that, but its likely to turn people off your cause rather than join it.

@LitaniTilSatan666 Whats more likely to make a difference, and let me cite very recent history here, is "terrorism", in the style of the german far left organization RAF. Even though I dont see it as terrorism. Another question: at which point are the politicians the "terrorists" and we turn into the good guys? Say what you will, the RAF made a big difference. They killed hardly any civilians, and yet they took down the german media and government.

But, as stated, things are starting to cross a certain line and certain things become necessary. Kidnap one big guy and watch the whole top shit themselves in fear and start giving the people what they want and need. Brilliant, Jack. They're lucky to have you in their membership. As for violence, I was waiting for you to say it & you did: self defense. It always depends on the circumstances, but fighting back should ALWAYS be an option. I'm intrigued by how the advent of tv in the mid20th century changed the way aggressive resistence to ruling class domination is generally viewed; isn't it shameful how the corp. media protect their masters & cast legitimate protest as frivolous hooliganism? -Cheers, comrade.
