The segment, starting at 6:02 is rather weird. This jaunty, Big-Band music, set against the carnage of war. This is rather, to say the least, odd editing decision.

a special bomb built just to destroy damns by skipping over the water like a stone it lets the plane drop from much further back and increases the chances of a direct hit as its travelling forwards at a low altitude.

It was an expeirmental bombs used to the blow up the dams of the Ruhr. Some of some dams were KO ed.

Yes indeed, VC was well deserved for that effort.
Although if you were to ask anyone (including William Reid, VC) who won such an award, they didn't go into the service looking for it.

It was a post war shot when the US was experimenting with ground-to-air rockets. The B-17 was unmanned.
