  • Hah, I love this tune I played it in jazz band as well -_- he plays very well.

  • good stuff

  • Doesn't this guy remind you of the guy in the smoothie place from iCarly?

  • With the right amp any Bass will sound great. The player will make or break the sound. I have a Sound Gear Bass by Ibanez and I wouldn't trade it for anything or comments. The player makes the Bass, not the other way around.

  • Slap bass I heard

  • i played that song in jazz band

  • Warmouth makes an 8 string bass neck, THAT would be intimidating.

  • My high-scoll jazz band plays that song. I actually wanted to make my own slap and pluck version of this song, and what I got in my head sounds exactly like what he played! Awesome sauce.

  • song sounds like "Chameleon" by Herbie Hancock.

  • @bustindustin01 *golfclap*

  • @bustindustin01 It is :D

  • He did that dent with his finger?

  • i have the same base guitar but mine is only a 5 string and im only 13 years old!

  • @97abcdefghijklmno your age does not reflect what guitar you own....

  • @jdhsfaklfglvjdhf ok ...how come when i play it i need to put alot of volume....and when some one older than me playes it ....they use little volume and it sounds the same when i use alot of volume....can you some how espain that to me...is it that i dont have enough strength or what is it...???..please anwer back

  • @97abcdefghijklmno how long have you been playing. your age wont effect your playing, but how many years of experience you have will. you can be 10 years old and might have started when you were 5 and be significantly better than a 18 year old whos been playing for a month. If youve been playing for a year you wont have nearly the same chops as somebody who has been playing for over a decade. as for volume.... that could be anything from your bass, to your fingering strength, your amp, etc...

  • @jdhsfaklfglvjdhf .ok....im sorry if im waisting your time....but...i am so interested in the bass....so i wanna ask you this question....I see a lot of people play the bass with only " ONE " arm....and i wanna know how..,. they dont use the plucking arm ( hand )...they use the other arm .and im all like wtf..i just wanna know how to play like that...... do you have any information....or do you know how to play it with one hand.? i see alot of bass players in mexican bands play it with one arm.

  • @97abcdefghijklmno What do you mean with one arm? they just play with hammer-ons and pull-offs? If they just do hammers and pulls then thats easy... hammer on and pull of. you have to hit the strings firmly otherwise the notes will sound dead. if thats not what you meant by one armed playing then you'll need to explain more, because i've never heard of that style of playing

  • くだらん 普通のベースと何も変わらん演奏で何を言うとるんや?

  • @TheDarusugi :Could you please translate this to English?

  • Rad dreadies man, and the bass is just ace! :D

  • If I had money to blow on something, it would definitely be a fucking bass.

  • that is such a sexy sound, it makes me proud to play a bass.

  • Comment removed

  • @TwoSoulsAs1 : I strongly suggest you go back and check your music. What we were playing is Chamaeleon, NOT Watermelon Man. FYI

  • @wmdbassplayer

Yes, you are correct, I am extremely sorry about that.

  • that DeadGoldBass guy probably plays country! Most of those country guys think that their the best shit since sliced bread.

  • i been playin bass 4 string 4 over 30 yrs i bout me a 6 string an it is kickin my butt this video is very impressive

  • @viper4861 : Stick with it, Dude. Once you get used to the wide neck, it's no problem.

  • @wmdbassplayer If you take KoRn for example, they use a 5 string bass(K5) and a 7 string guitar(K7) and the sound works really well together

  • I really love this guy :D

  • @DeadGoldBass @lightbrown95

the 5th string on bass only really fits with the sound of the 7th string on a guitar

  • @IMusHRooMHeaDI : If I understand your comment correctly, your talking about the lowest string on a 5 string bass, which is B, (same on the 6). The 7th. string on 7 string guitars is also a B but an octave higher than the bass.

  • I had no idea Bob Marley played bass

  • @PilGrimmm : yuk, yuk, how original.

  • I love Bass Guitar!! Looking to get a 6 string soon :D Great video !! Peace

  • Fuck NC. I miss NY and being able to see musical geniuses just chillin and playing at the station or in central park or something. I may live in North Carolina, but my heart will always be in NY and in these street players who brightened up my day every time id hear them. I salute you!!!!!

  • @blacklegionairsoft1 Its my favorite part about getting out of penn, seeing the people just playing is great.

  • ppl who play street music make the world a better place.

  • Is that a SR506 ?

  • @KaslarProductions : It's an SR496, basically an older version of the 506. Differences are that the 506 neck is flatter from fingerboard to bottom; input hole is recessed in the front, where mine is on the side and if I remember correctly there is a pole splitter switch on the 506 or it may be a pickup selctor. Like I said I don't quite remember. Hope this helps.

  • @wmdbassplayer Thank you this helped alot.... I have a 506 and I believe the switch to be a low/high mid selector for the EQ, I also could be wrong I have only hears slight differences when I flip it.. There is only one knob for pickups, it is a mix knob.

  • @KaslarProductions: Either way, I feel it's still a great axe for the money.

  • Jeff Hughell (Braindrill.) uses a conklin 7 string bass. Conklin also make 9 and 10 string basses. Only guy I know who uses a ten string is Scott Plummer(Viraemia.), but he made it himself it's not a Conklin.

  • WTF LOL ROFL fuccing stevo voice at the beginning

  • I think that the interviewer is Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers

  • "i dug into the instrument" winner! LOOOOL

  • I tried to capo a six string bass hahahaha.

  • @OliverSplat ♥ u! xD

  • @OliverSplat I capo 4 strings of mine sometimes XD

  • @OliverSplat lol XD

  • @OliverSplat meh, idk about you but I can get a capo on mine 6er pretty nicely and work :P

  • @OliverSplat i did, tuned DADGAD ;-) sounds crap though...

  • kinda sucks that people with talent like that end up playing in subways instead of studios

  • @339194 this is just the beginning.

  • @339194 Blame corporate music. Everyone's buying the latest thing advertised on MTV because they are sheep to the media, they are not buying the good stuff.

  • @339194

earth wind and fire- thats the way of the world ;)

  • @339194 means more this way.

  • Hahahaha I was jkin ppl but I do think 6 string basses r dumb

  • @midgetrocker36 True, 6 string basses are really to big for nothing, people with a 5 string almost never use the 5th string, with 6, you never use the 5 and the 6? and I think it's not really useful to play with 6 strings basses because I don't know any good bands who plays with a 6 string.

  • @DeadGoldBass i think Dream Theather is a good band.. just my opinion

  • @DeadGoldBass dream theater, primus, braindrill, obscura, pestilence, necrophagist. and some more that i'm too lazy to list :D

  • @billnoceros I know that somebands use it, but is it really useful? did they often play on the 2 ''new strings''. Because I don't think, Exeption for solos, I Think Kalmah use a six string because their solo sounds like

  • @DeadGoldBass i don't about pestilence cause i've never listened to them, but all of those other bands' bassists use all the strings liberally.

  • @DeadGoldBass :Go to my channel, look at the 2:00 video titled Street Electric Bass under My Subway Performances playlist. I play Voodoo Chile using all six strings. Tell me what you think!

  • @DeadGoldBass People with 5 string basses dnt use the 5th string? You cant be serious. Start playing bass and then make a comment please thank you!

  • @lightbrown95 Actually, i play bass, and i know more than you about it.

People with 5 strings play with the 5th string only for fun but in a band, you did not often play with it because it didn't fit with the sound of other members 's instrument.

It depend on what sound the band is having and the kind of music, plus, See Skillet, Christian rock, 5 string bass, They play some note on the 5 th but not many

  • @DeadGoldBass Lol people with a 5 string play the 5th string for fun huh? And who says it doesnt fit with the other instruments? So your telling me if i hit low Eb on the 5th string and a guitar player hits the same note but at a higher pitch it wont match? OHH YEA!! You sure know alot more about bass then me! Its pointless arguing with people who doesnt know the first thing about music any way because based on your comments its obvious you dont know much about it.

  • @lightbrown95 You can't understand what i mean... I could waste my life explaining it to you, but, with the style of music you listen and the one i listen to i don't think you can understand what i mean, There's a difference between metal and Pop. so...

  • @lightbrown95 : Don't waste your time arguing with this person. Anyone that has seen me play enough knows that I use all 6 strings on my axe. Though of course I'm sure there are some out there with 5 and 6 string basses that only have them for the look and don't fully play the whole instrument.

  • A moment of music in a mechanized society. Love it!

  • 4:43 I agree. iI call them rockstar markings :D

  • this is stupid. a six string bass is a guitar. stop intruding on the guitar bass! do u c us making 4 string guitars? no! so stop it!

  • @midgetrocker36 what the fuck are you talking about?

It takes balls to play bass, unlike guitar

  • @bronzehydra3 haha i was jk i play bass too but do i think its weird to hav a 6 string bass

  • @midgetrocker36 excuse me but do you think the six string bass is underminding your guitar?

  • @midgetrocker36 :Not to argue with you dude, but there are 7 string guitars with an extra low string. Are they intruding on bass territory?

  • @wmdbassplayer YES! YES IT IS INTRUDING!!

  • @midgetrocker36 :Everyone is entitled to their opinion. What you call intruding someone else calls extending their range.

  • @midgetrocker36 : So, by your own logic, if a 6 string bass is a guitar, then would a 6 string bass guitar (a guitar tuned an octave lower) actually be a bass? And also, to burst your bubble, there are 4 string guitars called quatros, used in a lot of Afro-Cuban music; don't forget about the ukelele.

  • Why is he the worlds most dangerous bass player?

  • Is this SR506 ???

  • @maximvint : It's an SR496, a slightly older model, but basically the same as the 506.

  • THE WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS BASS PLAYER

  • imagine if a famous artist discovers this dude . he would be sick!

  • six string warwicks cost wayy more than 1200 dollars lol, you might find a low end corvette four string non active for 1600

  • @HyphyG123 : Regarding the comments about this issue: it seems that people assumed I was referring to 6 string Warwicks. i just said when i first got hip to the brand and not mention any specific model. Also that was at least 10 years ago.

  • @HyphyG123 : Not to start a pissing contest, but a few years ago at the Guitar Center in NYC I saw a used Corvette for $800. The first thing I asked was what's wrong with it. It was just old and a little scratched up, no where near as bad as my Ibanez! But listening to this again, I can see how one would think I meant I saw a 6 string Warwick for $1200. Also remember, this was a totally improptue, unprepared interview. Everything said was off the top of my head.

  • its that one guy from iCarly whos always sellin' stuff at the smoothie place? looks like it

  • who was the 7 string bassist? i wanna know if i know the guy. right on though, man, tough, very tough

  • @DMEN03 :Sorry, dude, I never did get the name of the bass player on that gig. It was a Vanessa Williams concert here in NYC in 2005. Like I said, I saw the bass, but I couldn't really hear where the extra string came in; the music was relatively simple so probably didn't call for having a 7 string.

  • @DMEN03 Okay, thanks for the reply. I was wondering, is there a difference in which pickups or strings i use. I find that i slap good on some bass guitars, but others sounded a little 'drowned'.

  • @DMEN03 :Generally, round wound strings are brighter sounding and better for slap styles of playing. Flat wound strings usually have a fuller bottom heavy sound and sound good in more traditional jazz styles if you're looking to sound as close to an upright as an electric bass can be. I'm not much of a tech head, but with pickups, the more wire wrapped around the poles, the 'hotter' and more powerful the pickup will be. Of course this is all simplified, but I hope it helps. Good luck.

  • @DMEN03 In could have something to do with how new the strings are as well as the material they're made out of. Some have a higher concentration of nickle or bronze or whatever. With pickups, the more it's wound, the more heavy the sound, but it also drowns out the brighter tone. this can be counter-acted, however, by an active pickup because they don't wind much wire on the coils, keeping in the brighter sound, but since they're powered, there's a much higher output.

  • might be a dumb question but what song is that?

  • i have trouble slapping on my six anyone have some advice

  • aww man, I thought he was going to say that he saw BrainDrill, but then he said that the bass player wasn't using to it's fullest potential and I was like, "aww man"

  • I'd seriously love to know what shop was trying to sell him that $1200 dollar warwick 6 string.... I'd max out my credit card on it in a heart beat.

  • @GUkraine: I wish I had you with me with your credit card when I first got turned on to Waricks! I was in Germany in 2006 and while still expensive they were relativley much cheaper there than here in the States.

  • @GUkraine : I never replied to you about this, but someone else made the same assumption that I was talking about a six string Warwick. I just meant Warwicks in general.

  • i would get a 6 or 5 string, but the only thing i dont like is how enormus they are

  • @Dagamerguy : Dude, you sound like I used to. Don't let the size of the instrument intimidate you. If you can notice the scratching all around the pickups, that was from me getting used to the instrument. Only way to learn to swim is to jump in the water!

  • another thing is most of the music i listen to would only need a 4 string string bass so i'll buy a 4 string first for me since im a starter

  • I thought at first this would be a poor vid.. But I was wrong!

  • Chameleon! Love it!

  • Of course when he starts to play 6 trains decide to roll by...

  • i have the same bass, great instrument

  • is this the SR506?

  • Yeah. It's an older model of it, if you're buying on today, you'll probably note some slight cosmetic differences. Also there's an extra Mid control switch.

  • @nupunk099: That bass is an SR496, which is an older version of the 506. I've had it about 6 or 7 years. Sorry I took so long to respond.

  • I tune half of my 12 strings in 4ths lol

  • This guys a fuckin genius

  • Good video, informative. 1975 is the year modern (as far as I know) 6 string basses were 'invented'. There's some history involved.

  • @3DEC3: Thanks. One point I got wrong was saying Anthony Jackson called it a tenor bass; he actually called it a contrabass. This interview was totally improptue and every I was saying was out of memory. There was even a point in time when upright basses had 6 or 7 strings. I believe 16th. or 17th. century. Look for a book called The History of the Double Bass. Just like there were electric basses before Fender there were earlier 6 strings. We only recognize what caught on.

  • I've heard about that. I've seen some websites about it.

  • @3DEC3: Glad you found the video informative. If you would read some of the earlier comments, you would see how many people tried to put me down or say I don't know what I'm talking about because of that one point I erred on. Again, thanks for the respect.

  • Dude thats pretty close to my tuning on my 7 string guitar lol. B E A D G B E

  • smexy

all that needs to be said ;)

  • bravo!! mes amigo :D

  • B,A!...

  • 6 string ken smith and luvin it. If it feels comfy to you then cool..!! Main thing is to do the damn thing...!! So do you.!!

  • I have a 5 String Ibanez SR305, in my opinion Ibanez makes some really good bass' for the price. Nice to see that you love Ibanez too. :D

  • i just got a gsr206 it is awsome

  • Comment removed

  • Get an 11 string bass:P who's seen the guy playing Mario on it?

  • i seen him. hees awesome.

  • @OriginAndAbsolution His name is Jean Baudin, the bassist for the now non existant underground super-band element of surprise as well as Nuclear Rabbit and fairly recently became a part of another band known as the voodoo gods. he also put out a solo album a couple years ago. check out some more of his stuff especially with Nuclear Rabbit and the solo stuff, its amazing

  • @musicman9901 : This guy you speak of is amazing! I've seen that video of him playing the Mario Bros. theme. Not to sound like a hater, but in my opinion, that instrument is very impractical for everyday playing. Then again, there was a time I felt that the 6 string was too much. BTW, did you see the video of the Japanese guy playing 'the Legend of Zelda' on two guitars using tapping only? Check it out!

  • @OriginAndAbsolution i think ur talking about jean baudin :p

  • I have a 5 string musicman bongo and i wouldnt change it for the world.

  • i am beginner, so is 4,5 or 6 string for me?

  • @mojamalanemamane1 It's all about what you want to play. If 6 feels comfortable, start with that. Everyone learns differently. Some people feel that a bass should have only 4 strings, but as you already know, there are 5 and 6 strings and even 7and 8 string models. It's all about how much you apply yourself to learning your craft. Let me know how you make out. Peace

  • thx, but i am beginner and i like relaxing tones and melodies.... so i hope 5 or 6 bass is for me beginner (sry for my english)

  • i own a 5 string and im getting a six string soon so does anyone have a suggestion on witch six string i should get?

  • @loagiedaiblo69 Dude, don't listen to the "get this , get that crowd." Get what you can afford and what looks, feels and sounds good to you. Honestly, I hate to see guys with expensive gear who don't know how to use it. Yes, I'll admit it's jealousy because I can't afford it. But remember, an expensive suit, if it doesn't fit , looks shitty. An expensive axe will not make you sound good if you can't play it. Get an axe that fits you and as you learn more, if you want, trade up. Good luck.

  • @wmdbassplayer, i was ganna get the six string 4 my birthday but, i said fuck it. im getting a flea bass it might not be the greatest bass but i like the rich tone of it. An plus i dont need a six string because well... im in a band and i play heavy shit so i play in B so theres no use realy for a C string.

  • Good for you, dude. Like I said, it's all about what you like and what feels and sounds good to you. Good luck in your band.

  • I recommend a Warwick 6 string...nice tone across all strings, and a real growl on the low C

  • Low C?

  • I love how the bass sounds! I wanna learn how to play a 6 string bass now! Anyone know of any companies that still make 6 string basses?

  • tons of em xD

  • Hamer makes a 12 string bass

  • Just about every major one.

  • DEAN makes eight strings!!

  • its double strung so its like a 12 string guitar

  • Anthony Jackson Actually invented the bass. Carl Thompson built the 1st one/. Then ken smith built it... following that Fodera built it. Aj stuck with fodera till present day. and its called a contrabass

  • Anthony jackson did not "invent" the bass. He suggested an idea and design to Carl Thompson that became the model for the Fodera 6 string bass.

  • hence...IT was anthony Jackson idea..... low B high C.. he didnt want it to be related to string instruments. he thought it should be 6 string so it related to a guitar....look it up.

  • i got the 5 string version of that it hink:)

  • You're method of improv reminds me of my own, but I really don't care for your tone. Great spirit though, I'd love to play in the subway like that.

  • My first bass is the one that I currently use an Ibanez sr406. Man I wish I could get bass lessons with this guy!

  • mexican musicians use a 12 string guitar called bajo sexto or LOW SIXTH tuned in Ee Aa Dd GG CC FF just something interesting look up bajo sexto

  • Funkjazz on a fucking violin, that's awesome :D

  • Anthony Jackson didn't call it a Tenor bass

    He called it a Contrabass

  • To PattenDevin: I checked my sources and yuo are right. I stand corrected, but to my credit, remember I'm going off the top off my head, not googling every single point.

  • yeah, thats true

and i agree with your point on the wide neck.

i have a 5 string version of your bass and i love it, it has a nice tone

  • Yes , Anthony Jackson`s FODERA are 28 frets

  • PARTICULARLY TO 5509stuart AND MikeInThe Valley, YOU GUYS WOULD HAVE KILLED YOURSELVES IN THE 60'S OR 70'S WITHOUT ALL THE FACED PACED, QUICK CUT, I WANT IT NOW BULLSHIT THAT EXISTS TODAY. TO 5509stuart, THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT ANYWAY.

  • Again, to Mikeinthe Valley: at 53 years old I am just totally surprised at your lack of patience to get through an interview video. I would expect as much from a 20 something and even from some 30 year olds, but you surprise me.

  • You miss the point entirely.

You seem to be hung up on age.

I think you need to grow up abit and just keep it musical. Not that I care-but since you made it personal-over a comment-that surprised me. And playing for 35 years-I wouldn't brag about that. You should be alot better.

  • What is the point that I am missing? I am saying that I am tired of 'shut up and play' comments. The majority of these come from 20 somethings and you at 53 make yourself sound as unfocused as any of them. As for growing up and keeping it musical, WHAT WAS THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW ABOUT, IF NOT MUSIC? And if you mean to insult by saying I should play better after 35 years, I'm not insulted at all. If you are going to judge me based on a 9 minute vid. of which you only can sit through 2 or 3....

  • Just say 2 words.

    "thank you."

Age means very little as you will find out.

  • shut up i could not get through vid

    sorry yourock

  • NOt to flame, I detest any video where a guy holds a bass and talks for 2 minutes.

Today at an outdoor stage, I saw the best 6 string bassist ever. His torpedo bass lines, loud volume, funky riffs, solos-effortless playing blew me away. I am a pro bass player of 20 years, and most 6 string bass players make it sound like a cheap standard guitar. This dude literally blew me away. I gave him my card, and asked him what bass he was using?

It was a Valley Arts custom. Larry Carlton gave it to him.

  • I'm sorry you have no patience to sit through an interview. I believe it would have been rather rude of me to say, "Stop talking to me and just let me play," especially when the videographer specifically asked to interview me.

  • @wmdbassplayer Hey man, what kind of bass is that? You said, in the interview, that its an Ibanez that costs about $650-$670, but what is the model number? I've been thinking about buying a 6 string bass, but I don't even know where to start!

  • I looked at your page and you list your age as 53! You're 6 years older than I am yet you sound like a 20 something in yuor comment. No patience and lack of focus: how did gather the patience to continue playing bass for 20 years. BTW, I've been playing for almost 35 years.

  • ACTUALLY A GUITAR! BUT TUNED AN OCTIVE LOWA! haha i love this guys voice
