This moter is turbo and supercharged. At my shop we are making the tubing for bolth and the mounting brackets. This thing is gonna make some serious power
Nice. I can see see where the weight ans size savings come from, but it is not clear where the 50% increase in efficiency comes from. Could you please expand on this.
Interesting concept, I don't think it'll ever be put in production, though. If it is ever put in production, I don't see it being used in an automotive application.
From what I can tell, it looks like they took a couple of old concepts and one new one and put them together in a very interesting configuration: opposed piston (old), opposed cylinder (old), electrically assisted turbo for constant boost across an RPM (and temperature) range (new-ish.) Would be very vibration resistant (I like) and small for a diesel. I think I read of this years ago, though. Whatever became of this? Why is this not on the market? Did the reality not end up matching the theory?
Increased surface area too capture the combustion pressure, now make it 4cycle , super low rpm's like less than 50 , micro-pyramid hemi-pistons , and a great turbo ; blueprint and balanced with no decitful engineering flaws and hook it up.
somebody make something clear for me. you see the outside pistons? how would you have those "side wrist pins" inside the cylinder while still being able to maintain compression?
just came across the article on this engine. i hope this works out as they say it will. i'm still researching, but i like what i'm hearing so far.. i have an appreciation for cars, with real engines. i like the idea of hydrogen power, and diesel engines. too bad the EPA is so strict on diesels. (while developing countries industrialize & build another coal power-plant) seems like theres too much money and politics involved in all of this anymore.. going green, for the earth? yeah, i bet..
The hype about the potential of this engine is well founded. Prof.Peter Hofbauer is right and has worked this theory for years, but this engine has issues which even he will struggle to overcome - (watch "opoc how it works" video). There exists patents for an Australian designed engine which has already solved those issues he speaks of. Its radically advanced and the 2 protoypes of that engine validates his projections about performance, efficiency and potential.
Quote from an interview of CEO Don Runkle of EcoMotors:
“The OPOC is cheaper, better, simpler, stronger, lighter and cleaner than any other power generating technology now or in the foreseeable future. . .The engine’s width is exaggerated a bit . . .”
Yet, the pattakon opposed piston engines OPRE and PatOP (there are videos and video-animations in the youtube) are cheaper, better, simpler, stronger, lighter and cleaner than OPOC. Aren't they?

i was thinkin with the way the beasrings on the crank are....... one is having an exerted pulling motion on the rod and bearing from the crank while the other has a pushing motion from rod to bearings on the crank at the same time wouldent that wear out the bearing faster?
This thing is actually old brew. Opposed piston engines have been developed since the beginning of the century (20th that is), just search for Jumo 205, Napier Culverin or Fairbanks-Morse. My favorite by far is the Napier Deltic which had its heyday during the 1950's and 60's.

the outside piston has to have a conecting rod on both sides of it or it will want to try and twist everytime it fires

The british Napier engine company were keen on opposed piston engines in the 50s. Check out their Deltic locomotive and fast patrol boat engine.

@chevelleguy1970 but there has got to be some sort of opening where the long connecting rods are at. idk, cant wait to see the final product

awaysome... the fire chamber increase and decrease very fast... i think this means the engine will rich high rpm.

what kind of out would this take. if its a 2 cyl would it run on diesel or mixed gas perhaps.

If the hype is to be believed, this would be the single most important development in ICE technology since the first ICE was fired up.
