wow... am just glad that my parents had the courage and willingness to work hard so we could go to school and not work at an early age. i really feel sorry for this kids, now me being a father of two, i just can see my 6 year old boy working let alone working with gun powder. nevertheless am really proud to be Guatemalan!

In Guatemala during the 80s when I was small I used to have a good life over there my mom worked for the Guatemalan Military and the National Police. But I would see the poor Indians and a lot of my mothers friends would talk bad about them. I just thought that that they should have someone like Jacobo Arbenz again who was the president of Guatemala from 1951 till 1954. My mom would tell me stories but she always express herself so good about Rios Montt calling him the best president ever.
I think it is great that these children have the opportunity to earn money for their families. If these children did not have these firework opportunities they would more then likely be starving to death and scavenging the dumps and jungle for food.
People that believe that these children should be educated in a first world type school system need to learn a thing or two about economics in the third world. Microloans and investments will help these people who are barely surviving.

high population = low labor costs , each family thinks it can make itself better off by having kids but in fact ending up driving labor price down . And the most hilarious part is that unless the will be laws enforcing people having less children it each it will be in each family's interest to keep more children or lose on possible income .

I'm Chapina and with proud! where I live (USA) I see teenagers just like my age (16) and some of them live in a fairy world but they can't see whats really going on outside and I'm so disappointed about some teenagers that are just wasting the education and all of that when there are people that need it. In many areas condoms are not even readily available and they are very expensive when you consider a days wage here. It maybe buy a condom or eat in some cases. If you notice, where there is high infant mortality there will also be high birth rates-- the imperative to survive as a species dictates this. When people have enough they have less children.

Me gustaría que estos niños tenían una vida mejor. Los niños en los Estados Unidos nunca se enfrentan a cualquiera de los retos que Guatemala, en particular maya, los niños tienen que experimentar. Si sólo el Norte y los gobiernos de América Central que hacer más para ayudar.

high population = low labor costs , each family thinks it can make itself better off by having kids but in fact ending up driving labor price down . And the most hilarious part is that unless the will be laws enforcing people having less children it each it will be in each family's interest to keep more children or lose on possible income .

I'm Chapina and with proud! where I live (USA) I see teenagers just like my age (16) and some of them live in a fairy world but they can't see whats really going on outside and I'm so disappointed about some teenagers that are just wasting the education and all of that when there are people that need it. When i watched this video i could imagine myself in there working hard to survive but I'm glad that i have what i have and that we could struggle against life and keep walking no matter what.

I think you have to look a little further into the cost of condoms and other contraceptives before you can judge. In many areas condoms are not even readily available and they are very expensive when you consider a days wage here. It maybe buy a condom or eat in some cases. If you notice, where there is high infant mortality there will also be high birth rates-- the imperative to survive as a species dictates this. When people have enough they have less children.

As a Guatemalan who has had the good fortune of getting an education abroad studying the factors that lead to economic development, the root of Guatemala's myriad problems--including child labor--was hinted at the very end of this report. Ultimately it's the implementation (not creation) of policies. The gov. there can't even collect taxes from the wealthy, which coupled with endemic corruption and rampant racism and division, is what ultimately leads to chronic underdevelopment.

I went to Guatemala when I was young and I remember my grandma had a cleaning lady that would help her around the house she took me to her home and this is the way it looked we had to climb down a hill and cross a small river. It was an experience I would say. Not sure why my mom even allowed me to go.. Lol

Extreme poverty is the condition where there family's total income does not cover the basic daily nutrition needs. Many people are starving to death at this day in many places in Guatemala.

I think is good thing that they put this children to work at an early age, (obiusly not so early, and is better for them to go to school if they can) but not on firework stuff. Is not god that alows this to happen...is people who like to blame him for the mistakes we do here on earth...We are responsible for this because we don't do anything about it...god gave us a brain and a mouth to speak and think, yet we still don't speak for this people in fear that we might get killed or ignored.

Guatemalan natives are happy humble people who have no choice but to live under a broken pre design oppresive system, any one who dears to help 'em end up dead, arrogance is a social cancer in the entire world, it's kind of strange that the only real help comes from Germany thru education for all natives and the person who educated me was German and I thank him.
There is a public school call INTECAP and all funding comes from Germany,estudents travel to Germany for free education. Thank You!!!

there is work dont tell me i been there... u get a cow milk it for money.... u dont let your kid do your work. get your ass over the border make money in the us like alot of guatemalans do and send it to your kids. U dont allow a child to work with firework. maybe if they dont buy gallo cervesa they can have extra money

"u get a cow milk it for money" wtf? if it was that simple, i think parents would have prefer to do that and make their kids milk cows instead of fireworks...besides all the "milking the cow positions are taken" + we can't all AFFORD COWS!! cross over the border...do you have ANY idea how much that costs?? we are talking about 5000 dollars for 1 person, and it does not guarantee that you will make it, get raped, or killed on the way...

yeah like that is very easy to do...is like saying "don't have sex" can you even do that?? man this people are human beings, they do get horny + this people want to have a family...what you expect third world countries to just stop having kids and eventually die off? this people have kids to "survive" they rather try to raise a family than sit and die...is sad but nothing would change that.
