The Beatles' music and memory are still remembered today, and rightly so, while Alexander Kendrick today is nothing more than a footnote to a trivia question.....and rightly so.
Did anyone see this when it aired? I was only 4 years old, but I was aware of the music as my older sisters had the first album and played it over and over for more than two summers. I'm still a big fan.
another fun fact: LHO was humming "Love Me Do" when he was having a bite in the 2nd floor lunch room during the time of the assassination. he was also thinking at the time "i think i'll let my hair grow out. i wonder if bob the barber knows how to do a beatle cut".
In an op-ed piece published in today's NEW YORK POST [5/27], Bill O'Reilly, the eternal sourpuss on popular culture that doesn't revolve around HIM, reflected on the influence Lady Gaga is having on her teen following today, with the same attitude Alexander Kendrick demonstrated here- in fact, at the end of his piece, O'Reilly suggested that Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta "save her money" while she can, because she obviously won't have have any lasting effect on pop culture. Jealous, Bill?
Interesting that This Beatle-feature happened on Nov. 21, '63, the day before JFK's assassination. Here's a fun fact: "With The Beatles", an English-issued LP, was issued on November 22nd, '63. Quite a cultural shift during that time.
@cdadave83814@alienhuman Actually, this originally aired Friday morning, November 22, on the CBS Morning News. It was going to re-air that evening, but, of course, JFK's assassination prevented that, so it was shelved until December 10, when Walter Cronkite decided that such a story would raise the nation's spirits. Watching this was a WWDC DJ named Carroll James. He asked a BOAC stewardess to bring their newest single over to the US. It was "I Want To Hold Your Hand." And the rest is history.
The very evening this was airing, Lee Harvey Oswald showed up unexpectedly at the house in Irving Texas where his wife and infant daughters were staying. His possessions - including his rifle - were being stored in the garage.
As mentioned, Kennedy was killed the next day, leaving this intro to the Beatles in America, lost in the news to come. It took the new year and Ed Sullivan to bring them to TV again.

@LiquorWreckedEmGood Interesting - Love me Do charted in England in '63, but was not released in America until '64.

And the sad part about this report is that today, no one knows- or CARES- who Alexander Kendrick is- or WAS. But everyone KNOWS The Beatles....
