Sesame street in the late 60s, 70s, and 80s had the best sketches. Sesame street now a days is so boring and plain. They may as well take it off the air. Thanks again for the upload!
Nice clip, with nice music! Unfortunately, however, I do not remember this one. I do, however, remember another clip with circles being on film, and a circle 'wrapping' itself around several live-action objects, an 'OK' sign being one of them. If anyone has this clip, please let me know - thanks!
When children see all the round objects in this sketch, will they supposedly strip off their arbitrary thicknesses, diameters, and imperfections and discover that they all conform to the Form of a circle, which Plato embedded in their minds 2400 years ago? Or do they need to think of specific round objects they have seen to develop the concept of a perfect circle with zero thickness, mass and color?
The pawnbrokers I've dealt with are honest, good, hard-working people. It's just like when you buy anything used-you have to be aware that it may have problems may not have been aware of.
Pawnbrokers often have a bad rap, of course-people often think of them as swindlers and cheats, who will buy items for less than they're worth, cheating the seller, and sell them for more than they're worth, cheating the buyer. They also have a rep for selling broken goods, stolen goods, and dealing with the Black Market. But I've dealt with pawnbrokers before, and most of the time, those claims just aren't true.
By the way, in case anyone wants to know, the object at 1:50-1:54 is called a "Newton's Cradle" (Or "Newton's Balls" . if you want to get nasty!) I have two Newton's Cradles. The President keeps one on the desk in the Oval Office, according to legend. It works on Newton's principle of Action/Reaction-The action of one ball hitting the others causes the ball on the other end to move. It's a very relaxing toy. It was invented around 1968. This film was the first time I'd ever seen one.
Thank you too! Another bit of interestng information about this film, if you'd like to know-the "loan" place at 0:49-0:52 is actually a pawnbroker. You can tell because of the three balls hanging out in front of the sign, The balls represent the three bags of gold that St. Nicholaus (later called Santa Claus, of course) tossed into a poor neighbor's window for the man's three daughters so they could get married. St. Nicholaus is the patron saint of pawnbrokers, according to tradition.
Also, does anyone know what that thing at 0:52-0:54 is? It looks something like a spring but I can't tell. And did anyone notice the two copyright "infringements" in this segment? Or maybe they're "product plugs"! Briefly at 0:15 is the cap of a Coca-Cola bottle, and from 1:05 through 1:15
you can see a 1960's picture of Snoopy doing his standard "Snoopy Dance" on the back wall of the pool room! You wouldn't get away with that nowadays, unless you were paid to "plug" the product!!
Been looking for someone to post this one! I have it on both of my "Sesame Street-Old SWchool" DVDs, and I remember it very well from when I was a kid. I was born in 1965, so I was among the first generation to grow up with Sesame Street. The section between
1:49-1:54 used to scare me because I didn't like how the music cut out, and all you heard was the clicking of the Newton's Cradle, followed by the drum solo. Now that I know what a Newton's Cradle is, I always keep at least two handy!!!
The little boy playing pool is the same one who in another film stated, "I'm broken", and after having his "ignition" "fixed" by a second little boy, began eating chocolate ice cream like a maniac. I think this is a Henson production.
The person who dislikes this must be a real square :-)

Anyone noticed how both the red and green lights were on at the same time?
MIKECNW 4 years ago
What surprised me more, is that they had traffic lights without the amber signal as late as 1969 in NYC of all places.
Tigerboy83 4 years ago
That was done to denote the yellow interval, since there was no amber light present.
There were recently some 2-section lights still in use near Rockaway Beach, but as of last week they were gone as well.
