I'm from LA...and when they start, you don't know if it is just building up to the peak...or if it has passed...so half the fear is worring if it ging to get big and big as your trying to figure out where to go. I was in the Northidge CA one...it was pre dawn...and I was in bed...I leterally dug my fingernails into the side of the bed and though the earth had fallen off it axis...and were were spinning out into space...Facing death in the face type of feelings..

OMG PANIC STATIONS. Sorry chappie but I was in Christchurch for that 6.3 in February. Everyone in the room fell over, everything went flying including the oven (I was in a hostel kitchen), the street outside cracked up, and nearly every building in the area collapsed. This sort of slight tremour, what you felt, happens in New Zealand all the time, it's really nothing to worry about :)

1. The house is about to blow up. - Well, I had just bumped into a pipe in my basement.

2. Somebody broke into my house. - There was just a loud thump upstairs.

3. There’s an earthquake. - No way, this is New Jersey.

4. My brother fell off his bed. - That would explain the loud thump. Oh wait. He’s not home.
