this version is a little off. it sounds ok but there are parts that could be better. and it might just be me but it sounds like he's pulling the string out instead of lightly striking it which kinda kills some of the otherwise good sounds. good stuff still but it kinda ercs me for some reason
It's harmonics with continued sustained constructed in a melody. If you don't want to hear it, then close the window and look up something else. This is some great playing and any real bass player knows this isn't easy to pull off.
@Vaksel There is an alternative. Hold the B with the left hand and thumb the harmonic (pluck with the right hand index finger) nearly over the top of the neck pickup on a std. Fender J Bass.
@YourOutdoorguide Yeh your right this video isn't a lesson - its a performance from the DVD in which Phil gives you Bass Lessons on Jaco Pastorius. If you need more info on the DVD then you can follow the link to the product page within the description.
Not being rude but the middle section (starts at 1:23) is completely wrong. It is played in 11/8 and with both the octaves of harmonics. It also changes on the second time round where it hits the 7th fret harmonic on all three strings (A,D,G) and then to the 5th. Hope this helps.
the fretted notes in 1.24 are note giving the moviment feel that it has and there`s a harmonic missing over Ab in 1.55,you should take not just the harmonic in the 4th fret of the D string but in the 6th of G string as well
But it`s nice that such a incredible song has a lesson on the internet, that`s a start,I must say...
this sound so dang beautiful, puts me in a peaceful mood!

@UberPiroxsFriend U ve got the point, nothing to do with the real thing

@UberPiroxsFriend i agree, quite a lot of what's being played is completely wrong, even from the very beginning.
crimsondrifter01 1 year ago
@UberPiroxsFriend almost all L.L lessons are not dead-on recreations like they claim. Instead they are very good starting points

Great playing and photography. As long as it's been since this song was originally done by Jaco, it still sounds totally futuristic.
