Well, he lost and he won. Technically he lost, but he could've destroyed Chidori, he just did not want to kill Sasuke. And before you people start saying this is a theory, I got this from Shonen Jump. Therefore, this IS the truth. So he actually won; He was able to delay Sasuke and without killing him. I say delay because his plan was to stop Sasuke, but if he realized he couldn't do it himself, his back-up plan was to delay Sasuke until help arrived. And it did, but not at the right time :(

Naruto then helps Kakashi kill a member of the group looking for demon-holding beings (Akastuki), however it damages his arm badly. He learns how to control his Fuuton (WIND) chakra with various tests, like cutting a waterfall in half. Also, as a spoiler for those who just read American manga from stores or just watch the anime, later on (REALLY later on) Jariya is killed by Pain.
