the fact that the book is labeled "fiction" is irrelevant. the author could have written a book that did not contradict scripture. i understand that this book is inspirational, but we are not called by God to be inspired. we are called to glorify Him.
I've heard it said that rat poison is 95% good food but it's the 5% that kills the rat. That is a good comparison to something like this. There is just enough truth in it to sell it, but it is subtly dangerous.

I do not expect anything in this book to be factual whats so ever being that it is a fictional book I expect the entire book to be imaginary and invented by its author.If you have a proublem distinguishing the difference between fiction and non-fiction they have medicine for that.

Dec 25th is the day of the pagan sun worshiping cults most important feast, as it was when the sun was supposedly "reborn" and began his ascent back up into the heavens. The Catholic Church wanted to make it easy to covert sun worshipers, so absorbed this pagan feast into their worship calling it Christ mass, & giving the excuse of honoring the Birth of Jesus. PBT, I find it fascinating how you judge others to be weak, when in fact you been exposed for the false doctrine you have preached. You claim that believers have a "sinful nature" where as the Apostle Paul said if you believe that you are not a child of God! You have yet to repent of that false doctrine.
So the orthodox doctrine you claim to believe in isn't at all orthodox but unbiblical.

No one is saying the shack is above the bible or comes close.
This is why most modern Christians are theologically backwards. The true gospel should be guarded at all costs. Imagine if a person reads this and says they finally believe they have met God...which God? The one of the scripture or the one you read about in this book? Just because it works doesn't mean it's right. That's how Satan interprets and presents scripture (ie. Jesus and Eve) We cannot be pragmatic in our approach to the Gospel. The Gospel is precious and MUST be treated as such.
I read The Shack. I also read He Loves Me and So You Dont Want To Go To Church Anymore. I walked away with a burning desire to know God more. Im hungrier than ever for an honest relationship with Jesus, something years of religion never gave me. All i know is that John 13: 35 says that we will know Jesus' disciples by the love they have for one another. I felt more love in those books than in any of the comments Ive read here. To know who the true God is we must read His Word. The Holy Spirit reveals to the redeemed the truth about God, Christ and Himself in the Bible which enables us to recognise counterfeits like Young's. The warnings about this heretical book are given in love by faithful Christians who are aware of the deception. (1)
The problem with Young's book is that the god he sends readers in search of is foreign to Scripture. His book is wholly fictional because neither the characters nor the theology bear any resemblance to the truth revealed in the Word of God. Paul Young publically rejected the truth by stating that a God who would punish His Son is not a God he wants anything to do with. He rejected the one true God and invented an idol to suit his man-centered desires. Please do not follow this blind man. (2)

In other words, "The Shack" is another gospel and another Jesus. It is not Christianity and the god portrayed within its pages cannot save sinners from the power of sin and death.
Hi savoirmine, "The Shack" is written under the guise of fiction but it is teaching people about the Bible and the heart and mind of God. The problem with the book is not only the sinful portrayal of God the Father who has never been seen (Romans 1:21-23, 25), but it is also that Young puts words in God's mouth that contradict His clear teachings (Jeremiah 23:31) including the blatant denial of the penal substitutionary atonement.

@ele, It doesn't say He brings from Heaven those who died in Christ! It says He BRINGS THEM WITH HIM! This is explained in 1THES4:16! The dead will rise FIRST; & we who are alive shall be caught up together WITH THEM, TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR!
Now if they are already with Him when He comes from Heaven, why would it be necessary for the dead to RISE & MEET HIM IN THE AIR? You are saying they are in Heaven now, He brings them with Him, they then rise from their graves to meet Him & THEMSELVES?

I know the problem with people is that they TALK things to death! Look very close to a flower Up close people may think fuzzy and furry mainly dark drab colors. How many people would say its ugly? Pull out farther to see the bigger picture and you see what you hadnt before. A way to see beauty in a completely different perspective. This world lacks sight. With all respect to reverend Youssef, I find it very sad how Christianity for many became little more than a vicious battle of words. Especially in sad modern America. That "missionaries" in the name of God deem their mission to be about condemning others and displaying an unpleasant self righteousness. I may disagree with some theological ideas of writer Young, but to miss what is good in what he's trying to do is a far greater error. Stop inquisition! let people judge for themselves.

We dare not tinker with the Lord. He is NOT a man, but a Holy God, to be worshipped and glorified. We must approach Him with reverence and fear, knowing that He loves us and cares for us.

@Haukman, Christ mass is the original catholic name which over the centuries has been shortened to Christmas. Dec 25th is the day of the pagan sun worshiping cults most important feast, as it was when the sun was supposedly "reborn" and began his ascent back up into the heavens. The Catholic Church wanted to make it easy to covert sun worshipers, so absorbed this pagan feast into their worship calling it Christ mass, & giving the excuse of honoring the Birth of Jesus. It is TOTALLY pagan though!

Beloved, when we water down the Gospel, and render The Trinity to our own personal "feel good" interperetation, we weaken the congregation of the saints.
I am left asking these questions:
- What did the Bible leave out such that I need the Shack to get me back to church?
- Do I "bend" orthodox biblical doctrine to conform to the Shack, or is the Bible the definitive standard on doctrine?
- Do the rave reviews of weak Christians and Unbelievers tempt me to teach another Gospel?

PBT, I find it fascinating how you judge others to be weak, when in fact you been exposed for the false doctrine you have preached. You claim that believers have a "sinful nature" where as the Apostle Paul said if you believe that you are not a child of God! You have yet to repent of that false doctrine.
So the orthodox doctrine you claim to believe in isn't at all orthodox but unbiblical.
No one says the bible left out anything.

This is why most modern Christians are theologically backwards. The true gospel should be guarded at all costs. Imagine if a person reads this and says they finally believe they have met God...which God? The one of the scripture or the one you read about in this book? Just because it works doesn't mean it's right. That's how Satan interprets and presents scripture (ie. Jesus and Eve) We cannot be pragmatic in our approach to the Gospel. The Gospel is precious and MUST be treated as such.

I read The Shack. I also read He Loves Me and So You Dont Want To Go To Church Anymore. I walked away with a burning desire to know God more. Im hungrier than ever for an honest relationship with Jesus, something years of religion never gave me. All i know is that John 13: 35 says that we will know Jesus' disciples by the love they have for one another. I felt more love in those books than in any of the comments Ive read here. Hope i didnt offend anyone. That wasn't my intention. God bless

Hi lierbag86, I am not familiar with the other books you mentioned but I know about the great danger of seeking the false god, Jesus and spirit portrayed in "The Shack".
To know who the true God is we must read His Word. The Holy Spirit reveals to the redeemed the truth about God, Christ and Himself in the Bible which enables us to recognise counterfeits like Young's. The warnings about this heretical book are given in love by faithful Christians who are aware of the deception. (1)

The problem with Young's book is that the god he sends readers in search of is foreign to Scripture. His book is wholly fictional because neither the characters nor the theology bear any resemblance to the truth revealed in the Word of God. Paul Young publically rejected the truth by stating that a God who would punish His Son is not a God he wants anything to do with. He rejected the one true God and invented an idol to suit his man-centered desires. Please do not follow this blind man. (2)

Great Points!! It would be more unloving of us if we didnt warn others of the dangers of this book. Im realizing people whoare drawn to this book and its concept of a "loving"God are more driven by their feelings/emotions than by critical biblical analysis. When you are emotions driven, deception creeps right in undetected. Satan poses as an angel of light. He did a great job in this book. Maybe God is using this book to separate the wheat from the tares. What a thought!

Hi savoirmine, "The Shack" is written under the guise of fiction but it is teaching people about the Bible and the heart and mind of God. The problem with the book is not only the sinful portrayal of God the Father who has never been seen (Romans 1:21-23, 25), but it is also that Young puts words in God's mouth that contradict His clear teachings (Jeremiah 23:31) including the blatant denial of the penal substitutionary atonement.
Please heed the warnings, Young's god is NOT the one true God.

This is proven true by a Scriptural comparison which reveals false doctrine and also by Young's public statements about the book being written through him by God which puts it on equal par with Scripture. Since "The Shack" goes entirely against the clear teachings of the Word, any supernatural inspiration could only be Satanic. The best argument would be when Moses set up judges over Israel under himself because he couldn't handle all the disputes. When looking back on the comments of this minister, ele12957, we see not only a fervent defense of a book that blatantly disobeys God's Word (Romans 1:23-25), but we also see venomous insults, unChrist-like behaviour and false theology.
He will not defend the Lord against Young's attacks on His holy deity and nor will he recant his support for a man who publically denies the penal substitutionary atonement (the very HEART of the Christian faith).
