  • i first heard this song on the andy griffith show. and i just fucking loved it!

  • Please you cant sing and this wasnt funny at all,!!!!!

  • hillbilly rap

  • Jerry Scoggins sang "The Beverly Hillbillies" TV theme song. Flatt & Scruggs played it.

  • I remember Lester and Earl coming to see my dad in his garage in NC in the early 60's. This has been my favorite song ever since.

  • shut up

  • Great. The real song playing with a poor recording of you singing it out of time. That's the kind of thing you should definitely share with the world. Well done.

  • Good music but the singing, oh the singing....

  • 56,000 views?? How many actually listened to the whole thing?? What would Simon say??

  • Who cares what that Simon would say. He's already done enough damage to music.

  • They need to bury you cause you obviously died during this recording!!! What kind of low down person would screw up a good song like that.......and then POST IT???

  • Ouch! Leave it to the experts on the CD!

  • Ol' Son....you need to go play the part of the Hog in this song so we can put you outta our misery....I'm sorry...but a yowlin' cat can sing better than you....Please don't ruin any more songs....

  • HAHAHAHAHA! I'm gonna add that in this weekend.

  • why did you do that?

  • Timing is badly off, here.Next time record it with just your voice, snapping your finger for tempo. We'll see if you can sing.

  • Who the heck gave this person access to Youtube ?????

  • Don't quit your day job......also, repost it without your crappy voice dub.

  • i like your vocal

  • Jesus fucking christ what the fuck is this

  • im with you

  • this is music

  • No. This is a sin against music. Overdubbing your shitty vocal onto an otherwise perfectly good recording is a mortal sin. This should NEVER have seen the light of day.

  • always liked the ORIGINAL F&S song (what's with adding the drums tho? THEY never used drums!)

also what in the heck is a "salty dog"?

    ain't nasty is it?

  • I also like the original

a salty dog is a lover

  • @klink6677 what in the heck is a "salty dog"?

Written by Wiley Morris & Zeke Morris of N.C. it's about a bar that had a jar of the pickled sausages on the counter.

Patrons would eat one and say "Man that's a Salty Dog". Earl Scruggs

learned the song while playing as a teenager with the Morris Brothers Band.

The Morris Brothers knew the barmaid, "Sally", who served the Salty Dogs, thus the verse about her.

This is directly from a TV interview with The Morris Brothers in the 1970's.

  • You ass-wipe..you dubbed a vocal over the original.

  • thats not even the original track...

  • This song is one of my all time favorites - not only by Flatt and Scruggs but also by Merle Haggard. I will give you credit for keeping up the fast pace with your singing of this good old classic. I don't think I could do it. This song is known by just about every musician I've heard and is always a favorite - a great beat and especially good to showcase many a singer. Thanks. - Paula

  • Hey, dont put a picture of Flatt/Scruggs if they're not singing--

that's bait and switch, deceptive tactics I dont like-- [2]

  • That IS NOT Flatt & Scruggs pal.

  • Hey, dont put a picture of Flatt/Scruggs if they're not singing--that's bait and switch, deceptive tactics I dont like--

  • i agree!

  • dude thats cool as shit

  • Thanks, glad you like...RT

  • @SCconfederate Why anyone would attemp to sing a song and be so flat and off key is unbelieveable. For God sake play it back to yourself before you put it here.

  • @SCconfederate It's actually much cooler than shlt

  • this song was written by john hurt not flatt n scruggs. The good doctor watsons version is by far the best version of this classic tune

  • This song was written by Zeke Morris of the Morris bros. They were a group Earl Scruggs played with before he met Lester Flatt.

We say this is a Flatt and Scruggs tune because they popularized the song, and arguably recorded the best versions of the song on the Mercury label in the 50s and on the Carneige Hall album.

Also, its not "Doctor" Watson, it's "Doc." I've never heard or seen him refered to as Doctor on a cd, in a bio, nothing. Just pointing that out.

  • @mckennar "this song was written by john hurt not flatt n scruggs"

The song was written by Wiley Morris & Zeke Morris of N.C.

Earl Scruggs learned it while playing as a teenager with the Morris Brothers Band.

It may have been a handed-down Negro Blues melody that the Morris brothers added their own words to and were able to get a copyright on.

  • Intresting song.........its new for me.
