  • Having been a survivalist for the past 25+ years, I can say that I agree with you 100%. I've seen sites which the person explains that a .22 LR would be the ideal survival firearm. I disagree. If I was given the choice to carry only one firearm, I would certainly go with a 12 gauge shotgun. They feed you, and they protect you quite well. You're one of few on here who got it right. Good job, keep it up!

  • @PatriotNC1 Thank you for the kind words!

  • Nice video, subbed, check out Iraqiveterans8888's video on cut shells just in case you ever meet a bear. Stay Safe.

  • @dahartman88 I'll check him out, but I think 000buck will handle any two or four legged critter that I might run into here in Virginia. Thanks

  • @Thetinfoilhatguy Major is great!! Thanks

  • Attention those that suffer from morephenism, note this man's shotgun. It's simple, it's pump action, and it has a standard style stock. His firearm is as deadly if it were black, brown, or pink. He keeps it simple because simple works, it's comfortable, and practical. By the way GunznGear, kudos on your simplistic approach and for looking like Mark "Chopper" Reed!

  • @anynameplease LOL Thanks for the kind comment!!

  • Nice video, very informative. What are your thoughts on the Mossberg 590 vs the Remington 870? Those are the two I'm interested in and I know you can't go wrong either way, but I would like to know your thoughts on the subject.

  • @Algastar I own the Mossberg 590 Mariner and the Rem 870 Police Magnum. I'm not sure that either of them has the edge on the other as far as performance goes. If you've seen my vid: "What's by my bedside for home defense" you will see my Mossberg 590. I've owned that shotgun for a long time, and I have complete trust in it. I've also become quite accustomed to the tang mounted safety. At the end of the day, I believe personal prefference is the difference. BTW I have vids on both shotguns. =)

  • What to keep in a stock shell holder?

i have a 12 gauge shotgun chambered at 3'' and a shell belt around the stock of the gun its a smooth bore modified choke hunting shotgun what kinda of shells should i keep in it it holds 5

  • @MrHoustonsk8er If you going to set it up for survival, Then I would put a mixture of hunting loads that patterns the best in your shotgun. For example: three 00 buck 3", and two high brass #6 shot. High brass #6 can be used for small game up to turkeys, and also they can be used for short range defense, if you should have to use them. I'm sure you know not to use slugs with a modified choke.

  • @GunznGear Slugs with a mod choke isn't going to hurt anything as long as they are lead slugs. Copper or other harder metals might cause problems in the long run. I know guys that have put hundreds of slugs through full-choke guns with zero problems. I would probably not recommend that but mod is only a hair tighter than IC which is the recommended choke from most manufacturers for slugs.

  • @gboyd242 Many generations of hunters, and my Father disagree with you. It has long been said that the continued use of slugs through a restricted barrel will "shoot the choke out" or "open the choke"

  • @GunznGear Eventually all things wear out. Even with an IC choke and bird shot, eventually you will see a choke open up especially if you shoot your barrel until it gets really hot on a regular basis. As long as you shoot lead and don't put any over sized slugs through the gun, I don't think it's going to be a problem with the amount of slugs one person might shoot. I'm no gunsmith though so MrH needs to do his own research and decide for himself.

  • @gboyd242 Yes all things mechanical wear out. I also believe you can accelerate the process, and one way is a continued practise of shooting slugs through a restricted barrel. I'm not real sure why you feel a need to interject your "opinion" on someone elses vid who is responding to a question that was not asked to you.

  • @GunznGear Wait, so do you suggest shooting slugs through a cylinder choke or IC?

Was the question directed at someone specific? I commented because I thought he might want some information based on experience rather than hearsay. Do you prefer that only you field questions in the comments of your videos?

  • @gboyd242 Yes, unless otherwise specified, I consider Q's asked in the comments of vids that I post, as questions asked to me. Our comments appear to be similar. You first comment said that you know guys who've shot lot's of slugs, then you say your comments are based on experience. Your channel says you're 23, but you could be 13. Either way, I'm probably a lot older and I've had a lot longer to learn. I haven't shot many slugs through restricted barrels b/c I've always been told not to.

  • You are a very good speaker and informative. I've been in Law Enforcement for over 21 years, and have for about the past 4 years have been interested and focused on survival and the possibility of a societal collapse and disorder. I don't know if you are retired, currently employed or what, but I assure you that you have a knack for teaching and instructing. If you thought about that for part time or making vids for sale, do it, you have the skills!

  • @lostsheep67 Wow, Thanks for such a kind comment!! I still have quite a few years before retirement, so this is just for fun for me. Thanks again

  • Nice vid. I bought my first gun a year ago. It was a Rem 870 with 18 inch barrel. I've since added a 26 in vent ribbed barrel with chokes and a rail for a scope. Although I've since added a 10/22 and a sporterized K98 and a pocket 380 and laying away on a Beretta 92fs, the 870 is still my gun of choice if having to run out the door or going camping. I live in Cali so my biggest camping fear are the two legged kind that have been growing in our Nat Forrest.

  • @ChavezRidge Love your choices! The 870 is an awesome shotgun, and nothing says "leave me alone" like a good shotgun!! Thanks

  • I like your calmness mister!

  • @TheSikiciCocuk Thank you sir!

  • Forget the setup, nice stache!

  • @philsense LOL Thanks

  • Nice barrel and reasoning behind it. I have a 8-shot 590 SP so I'm stuck with a fixed cylinder choke unless I change out the mag tube and spring, which I may after watching your vid. That's a nice looking shotgun.

  • @JoeNeanderthal The Mossberg 590 is a great shotgun. I have a older Mariner model, and it's the bee's knee's!! Thanks

  • a man and his mossberg its a beautiful thing im going to get a few new parts for mine and maybe make a video of it

  • @TheBasementArmory Go ahead a make a vid!! If I can do it, then anyone can!!! LOL

  • nice setup

  • @PolishedTurd4Life Thank you

  • @GunznGear i love your hat mines just like it and i hope to get the 20 inch rib barrel soon, nice setup and vid

  • @M0RTaLK0MBaT68 Thanks! Ya gotta have a good hat when you're camping! LOL

  • @1darkvslight1 Thank you for the kind words! I agree in that I do not wish to kill animals w/o reason either. I always try to be cautious, and considerate, but I will protect my loved ones!!

  • How is the mossberg as far as quality?

  • @e1ghtys1x Remington 870, and the Mossberg 500/590 are probably the most tested and used combat shotguns around. As far as pump actions go, they're tops.

  • @e1ghtys1x mossberg has quality?

  • @e1ghtys1x I have a 500 and 590sp and they are both reliable and tough.

  • Great video!!! Keep them coming

  • @theresistance45 Thanks, I'll try!

  • Don't ever get between a mother bear and one of her cubs. The mother bear will destroy you.

  • @Larrye123 Very true, always try to stay aware when in the woods. I would feel horrible if I had to shoot a mother bear. Thanks

  • Great video boss! I enjoyed it very much.

  • @noBuzzkillin Thanks Bro! I appreciate you stopping by

  • GunznGear You can find them by searching for straussheartdrops. I don't know exactly what you have, but you might want to check out beyondhealth. I've used items from both, and recommended them to others.

  • As an aside to your video, I would like to make a suggestion to you because blood thinning medication will only cause other problems. There are natural remedies out there, and I know that these work. Try strauss heartd rops.

  • @AnalyzeIt Thanks for your comment. I will look into those. Are they found in drug stores, health food stores??

  • Did u no the sas never use slings on there guns?? U talkin bout how u liked them just reminded me :D

  • @fireobbsesion I don't know much about the SAS, but I do know how much it sucks to drag a deer out of the woods w/o a sling.

  • @FirearmsPlus Thanks! Mossberg makes a good shotgun. I hope you enjoys yours, when you get it, as well as I do mine.

  • that looks like so much fun... I wish I did more of that type of stuff, you have inspired me

  • @ricksn777 I had a lot of fun, and Major had a great time too. Thanks Bro!!

  • The things we prepare for are very rare indeed....so I am wondering if you have ever had an experience where a gun or other survival tool was vital in getting out of that situation un-harmed....perhaps people could share vid responses as to how a gun and a cool level head in any real life situation has prevailed....thanks from Boston

  • @RedSoxBowHunter Yes I've had an experience or two where a gun has greatly helped me. I've been planning to make a couple of vids discussing those occurances. Thanks

  • I think the biggest threat we face on the east coast, apart from the ticks, chiggers, fire ants and snakes are the two legged creeps that you might run into on some of the public lands, in that case you are definitely well prepared for them as well. We too have had a rash of black bears invading the local metro area, two weeks in a row black bear cubs sighted near a couple schools, causing them to lock down. DNR was able to trap the first one, no news on the second.

  • @dphitch With humans encroaching in bear territory and vice versa, some black bears lose the fear of humans. Sometimes these "problem bears" are trapped and relocated. Problem is, here in VA, there's no wilderness to set them free, and the bears end up returning to their old ways at their new location. It's bears like this that can become a threat. I totally agree that our most the likely danger is human.... and chiggers!!!!!

  • Great vid! Hope to see more like this :)

  • @karvkna Thanks I like doing this kind of vid!!

  • Great vid. I don't get out into wild much, but I do keep an old Mossberg 500 in my closet. After watching your vid., it makes me feel tactical. LOL.

  • @lamarama1 Thanks! The Mossberg 500 is a great shotgun.

  • Great video my friend, enjoyed the tips, you made some good points

  • Great vid. Very helpfull

  • @SireBigz7 I'm glad you found it useful

  • You didn't approve my video response. :(

  • @TheAngryvikingman Ah ha!! you're the one! I'm sorry, I thought I approved it but it didn't show up, and I had already deleted the e-mail message. Opps!

  • @GunznGear Oh, well it won't let me resubmit it.

  • @TheAngryvikingman I don't know how, but your vid is on here now!!

  • @GunznGear

    Yaaaay! Lol. Thanks.

  • good set up sir. makes me think about the set up of my rem 870

  • @IronGinkgo Nothing like a good 870!!!

  • @GunznGear, yes sir.

its got a 17" bbl. ported and fixed with slug sights.. someone fitted it with a larger copacity magazine. (8+1)

it had a polymer pistol grip/steel over folding stock. on the stock it read "for police use only". i drew no conclusions, i busted the stock off on a plywood santa. wasnt the smartest of my desicions. i need to buy a new stock, obviously. any sugetions?

  • @IronGinkgo Please re-check your barrel length, if it's shorter than 18" then it's classified as a class II firearm and you have to fill out seperate fed forms and submit to an FBI background check, and pay additional fees in the form of a tax stamp!!! Federal law is very stringent. Hate to see you get in trouble w/ the feds

As far as the stock goes, the polymer/plastic stocks from Mossberg are just fine.

  • @GunznGear thank you for the warning sir! it is in fact an 18". sorry, it wasnt my intention to stir things up. i didnt know what the length restriction was. im also not a gunsmith and i assume the gun shop wouldnt sell me anything illeagal, so i didnt put much thought into my quick measuring a year or so ago. numbers might have changed in my head over that time aswell,

thank you for your sugestions and keep up the good work brother.

  • @IronGinkgo I'm glad to hear that! Sometimes folks just aren't aware of federal restrictions, and I would hate to see them get in trouble. It's not that the short barrel is illegal, but it is classified differently and there are specific requirements in order to possess them. Yes your gunshop should know that. Thanks, and take care!!

  • What brand of hammock and bug net as well as the tarp, well hell at this rate I just need the brands of everything in the video including the dog haha gorgeous that dog! Great video!

  • @juicyj267 I think the hammock is called a Skeeter Beater, but I don't remember the name (Bug net is sewn in) The Tarp is Etowah, The shotgun is Mossberg 500, and the dog is a St. Benard LOL

  • Thanks for another excellent well thought out video, your time and efforts are much appreciated. I hope the rest of your time out at camp went well,

all the best from a fan in the UK.

  • @herne2001 Thanks for the very kind words. Love you "chaps" in the UK Cheers!!

  • Great video my friend I like that vent barrel it has the same look as a colt python :)

  • @bigrob18772 The Colt Python is awesome!!!!!

  • good vid buddy.. those lines for the hammock looked real skinny not sure if that could hold my big ass..lol.. and also great point on the sling!

  • @lskw1 That hammock is rated for 325lbs, that's why I bought it... for my big butt!!! LOL Thanks Bro

  • definatly a good one. great video

  • @josephd27 Thanks buddy, I appreciate it

  • Cool looking setup man! Major is at peace. Nothing cooler then pets being at peace =)

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. Thats a song!

6:48 Hell Yeah Ebomeys line, it's spreading!

If people don't have common sense enough to have a sling then maybe they shouldn't be hoping for WROL =)

    Great video as always man!

  • @FireArmsResQ i have a sling on my shot gun too

  • @FireArmsResQ Thanks Bro!! Major really enjoyed his self. Sarge on the other hand, moped around all weekend, my wife said.

    I remember that song.. cool!!

Some folks don't realize how important a sling is, until they need one.

  • Tactical without being tactical... I like it! Actually, that shotgun is a very interesting set-up. Also, your campsite looks like a very peaceful, beautiful place to get away from it all. Thanks for a very good video.

  • @mcekim2 Thanks for the kind words!!

  • my single shot 22 and my 303 are the best possible choices for bush survival around here. you can't beat it. my 12 gauge is best suited for urban environments in my area.

  • @Firearms4Canada 303british is a great round! Thanks for sharing

  • @MrShadowWang There's also been a couple of stories on the news about bears in Pungo. They are actually setting "live" traps in Hickory to catch some problem bears. I agree the snakes are everywhere. Thanks for the comment

  • canʻt go wrong with a good chew on the camping trip

  • @hawaiianlineman or any time, for that matter!!!

  • @GunznGear Trying to rid this habit before my son is born, but got to love that cope and kodiak

  • @hawaiianlineman I should quit also...I just don't want to!!

  • @GunznGear quitting is for pussys

  • Comment removed

  • @hawaiianlineman You're a imbecile & a pussy .

  • @bigdubbatoo anyone ever told u to go fuck yourself. Im having a conversation with the person that posted this video, not u

  • @hawaiianlineman Well don't cry like a little girl abut it. This is PUBLIC meaning anyone can post unless the person posting the video makes comments unavailable .

  • @hawaiianlineman LOL I have a friend who says AA is a support group for quiters. LOL

  • @GunznGear rehab is for quiters too

  • When it comes to preparing for SHTF/WROL/TEOTWAWKI I never hear preppers say the following.

It depends where you live, what the biggest threat is you're likely to face and where you intend to be after that day has come.

BTW have you ever bought any of that Centurian buck and ball ammo?

  • @nbenicewicz I have tried those mini shells from Centurian. I tried some speciality rounds like buck & ball, fleshettes, and that one that has two lead balls conected by a steel wire, but when testing those very expensive rounds out, I was not impressed. Conventional ammo is devistating enough. Thanks

  • when Z-Day comes, you cant go wrong with shotguns.

  • @volound I agree, shotguns are formidable.

  • Very nice shotgun. Always been a fan of the Mossbergs. Can't wait till I get a 930 spx at the end of the month.

  • @wimplos Good luck w/ your new shotgun!!

  • Thanks for the info!! I appreciate it because I need to slim down a bit when I go camping. Shoot, it seems like my ammo & guns weigh more than my camping gear!! lol!

  • @depoeslew1 LOL I know what you mean, sometimes I take more ammo than food. LMAO Thanks

  • @jimkressin Don't tell me you still have snow!!

  • Man ticks are just pure nasty. They get absolutely everywhere, and can end up killing you in a dam long drawn out process if you're the unlucky one. It's iteresting to hear about the different rounds you use in the shotgun, most informative. Cheers, and enjoy the freedom man

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 I agree, ticks really suck!! Thanks buddy!!

  • @GunznGear pun intended? haha

  • @Natedaschoolboy My sad attempt at humor. LOL

  • @MacheteMenacho lol "wayward asshole" ... i'm going to use that one in future "snout in the tent at 3am" i'll do something with that one too - not sure what but i'll think of it..

fair warning bro' i'm gonna' talk yr word's. peace out.

  • @MacheteMenacho I agree, and that last sentence is awesome!! Thanks

  • bigfoot is out there somewhere. dog tics are big now in river valley Illinois.

  • @marvintheboon Wouldn't mind running into that Bigfoot critter, I've heard so much about him. The ticks are bad around here too. Thanks

  • Nice Mossberg Van I choose to use a Mossberg also for my SHTF I'll put up my SHTF vid as a response

  • @TheJmac1983 Thanks bro, I'll be glad to add it.

  • id be more worried about hog than black bear they are very docile

  • @cbr6864 Hogs can be dangerous for sure, but bears are predators. Bears can be docile... untill they're not!!

  • Great setup Van...Looks like you 2 are having fun!

  • @dakdak88 We had a blast!!! Thanks

  • Thanks. Been touting the versatility of the 12ga. for years. Ammo is easy to come by. For self-protection against "criminals", I KNOW I'll be shaking a bit when I make the decision to shoot.

A shotgun is the best single piece of equipment to "keep the peace" that an average person can carry. They have a high "scare factor".

I recently picked up a Mossberg 500A "Cruiser/Persuader" to add to the collection. I chose the 19" barrel, 7+1 Mag., pistol grip.

    Hexolit 32's for ammo.

    Peace,

    -Grizz

  • @grizzzlyjoe Some folks think the shotgun is antiquated, but I disagree!! Hard to beat the power and versatility of the good ole street howitzer!! Thanks

  • Not sure who is commenting, but I think you have a well thought out plan for those things. Some people think inside the box..lol

  • @CaptainBerz I've had some folks suggest you don't need a gun when camping. I even had a few that say you don't need a gun at all!! Thanks for your kind remarks

  • Shotgun is the best. I take one fishing with me cause when a water snake swims across the pond at you, it's hard to hitem with a 22 :) Shotgun = dead snake

  • @SupremeAmerican Very true!! thanks for the comment.

  • @Rondo2Pierce I really like hammocks, they're very comfortable. Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • Great stuff, Vann. Good setup you got there. Good points made. Being a VA native my whole life, I totally get where you are coming from.

  • @MrJimbofox Thanks Bro!! Oh and I forgot it makes a dandy zombie gun!!!! LOL

  • @GunznGear Damn right it does!

  • Awesome vid Van! You are in you're element out in the woods, and Major seems to have taken right to it and worn himself out in the process...I really appreciate you're sharing not just you're knowledge, but you're friendship as well.It really means alot to me man..You,ebomey,&FirearmsResq,are really keeping me company as i have alot of involuntary free time at the moment,& yt though good,&bad,is good in this way.Oh,& i tagged you in my last vid,you gotta come see it! later bro! 8)

  • @1dabirdman Thanks Bro! I don't care what Eric and John say about you...you're alright w/ me!!! LOL

I'll check out your vid now

  • @GunznGear Hahahah! theres absolutly no telling what they said,probably sad........but true......lol!

  • The shotgun is the best camp gun...Thanks for sharing!

  • @DocTacDad I certainly agree, thanks

  • i like your hat

  • @mgonza29 Thanks

  • +++++

  • @Snicke22 Thanks

  • yay...claps

  • @frodo70444 aw shucks, thanks!

  • To me the needs for a SHTF shotgun are different from the needs of a 'survival' shotgun. A survival shotgun to me is a shotgun used to gather food. Even a double barrel is acceptable but a double barrel wont satisfy the needs of a shtf shotgun.

To me a shtf shotgun would needs to be a self defence weapon. There is overlap as with anything. A pump would work fine for this.

SHTF to me is more like a breakdown in the rule of law & survival would be trying to live in the woods.

    Great video!

  • @rooftopeagle Many folks have shotguns like the Mossberg 500 Defender as their WROL firearm, and IMO they are well armed. There are also more 4+1 capacity Rem 870 shotguns in police arsenals than anything else, and they are well armed. My thoughts are with the barrel I chose, it expands the versatility to include use as a survival arm. Thanks for your comment

  • What fun is it to go camping by your self?

  • @thenowandaway Loads if you are married with kids.. :o)

  • @thenowandaway I've gone camping alone before, its not exactly fun but its tranquil, You get to relax and get away from all the craziness of city life/everyday stuff. Its nice man, i think everyone should do it once or twice.

  • @SocomElite187 Amen on tranquility!!!

  • @thenowandaway Sometimes it's nice to just get away from everything, and enjoy the outdoors. It's also fun to practice woodsmanship skills. Besides we have an "empty nest," and my wife started a new job so she doesn't have a lot of vacation.

  • really good

  • @mrmaverick567 Thanks
