No worries. Just thought I would give you the info on what people like in So Cal. The pluse side about your kit is we keep the registration on the bike. But as far as the look. Low is better. It beats the the jokes at the bike show when you see a stock Sportster next to your kit and the stock one is lower... hope to see a lower kit in your catalog.
I have 2003 Sportster xl 1200. It came lower from factory. Im in California. Michael Ramirez. I'm just saying that your kit could be better if the Hardtail gave a lower stance. I think in total ground clearance on a stock Sportster is 10" .. I now have 2" ground clearance after I modified the Hardtail ... I have pic if you want to see. You can look at my video on my bike here on youtube
@onesweet52 I don't want to come off like I don't value your feedback, because I do. These points of discussion are valuable, especially for guys that haven't started their project yet, and are still planning.
We build all rigid frames & full chopper builds with 4" of ground clearance. It never occurred to me folks would be after much lower. I used to ride a bike that low and got tired of the dragging and high-centering. But, to each his own. That's what choppin' is all about...
Sounds good. But even lowering the front end don't make the stance any lower. What I did was cut off the lower bar from the kit and welded a 2" plate. That lowers the rear 2 1/2 "by from stock and gave me a 2" ground clearance. Some of my friends bought your kit and are now asking me to do the same on there's. Also the plate for the oil tank is to thin and brakes off. Need to give a thick one to support the weight and vibration ..
@onesweet52 So, doing the math, you are saying that your stock bike had 4-1/2" of clearance at the rear end? I haven't ever seen a Sporty that low from the factory. What model is it? I wonder if it didn't already have shorter shocks on it?
What is your name? I want to pull the spec's on your kit, so I can research your order and give you a call.
As far as your desire for 2" of ground clearance, I would never tell anybody that any of our kits achieve that, because they don't.
I bought this kit and only lowered my bike 1" from stock.. I had to cut it up and mod to lower it 2" from stock. You guys should specify the stance on your web site. Or make it 2" lower then stock.
@onesweet52 Most of the hardtails that we build in-house and/or just sell for other manufacturers, will put the bottom rails of the frame at approx. 4" to 4.5" of ground clearance and almost level IF you lower the front-end approx. 4". Less if you don't, of course. No matter what, how much overall lowering that you get with a hardtail depends partly on how much, or if, you lower the front end.
Thanks for asking us to clarify that. It is an important factor in planning a rigid conversion.
Looks like a good job on the hard tail kit, but the seat springs are too tall and ugly? Is there not a better way to make the seat more cleaner and cooler looking? (maybe lay down the springs a little or use shox?)
Hey! Putting one of these on a 1997 883 Hugger. Can you tell me how many tooth belt i Need? Does an 883 belt differ in length from a 1200 kit? Thought since you sold and installed these you might be the guy to ask! Thanks!
