  • Your mastery of the Viola da Gamba equals that of Jordi Savall, you are a true master of the instruments which you play. Happy New Year! NEVER stop making your lovely music!

  • Thanks, this keeps my motivation

  • Thank you for the music!!!! and thank you for publishing the links to the scores.... : - )

  • welcome!

  • @ ernststolz

You say at the end of your video ~ Thank you for listening ~

I say: THANK YOU for letting us! Your playing is wonderful

    and the music-selections always superb!

  • thanks, yes I used to say that in my older videos, but I still agree

  • My morning coffee has lead me to the Hume path. I was oddly touched by Hume's curious comment that "the only effeminate part of me, hath been music..." Unfortunately, that idea still prevails in most of America. Our budget has been cut towards the Arts, and sports and science rule. America, if it ever had a tender side, has lost it. For the most part, music is discouraged because "you cannot make a living at it!!!". This video really sparked my ire........not your magnificent playing.

  • Yes Brian, that is quite sad. Also in the Netherlands the status of the arts has been lowered. I suppose it is a worldwide thing. Perhaps someday people will realise they cannot live without...

  • @ernststolz I am saddened to hear that, Ernst. Music is the very soul of life itself. I feel as though I am a man in the wrong place and wrong time! Thank you for continually showing your talent to us on the worldwide Tube. BRIAN

  • Delightful stylish video.

    Many thanks.

I'm on a voyage of discovery!

  • Great stuff. And thanks for posting the score. You're a better player than I am, but I'd like to have a go at it anyway.

  • Absolutely delightful. Would someone like to put up a video of Hume's gamba piece for two players as described by firebreatheone?

  • Hume also composed a rather interesting piece for the gamba: 2 bows are required and the smaller of the two players is obliged to sit in the lap of the larger player.

He also instructed to "drum this with the backe of your bow" in another piece, "Harke, harke,"

All in all, he was quite an interesting person as composer.

  • Hi firebreathone I react on an other comment by you, which I can't see, but this video still is available. Something strange with youtube? Though I removed some lesser videos indeed.
