@Horselover4811, they lift their feet that high naturally... but sometimes some of these horses have extra "things" done to them to get them to pick up their feet even higher. This horse moves like this when he has shoes put on... and they are not really "weighted" shoes or anything like that, they are evenly weighted shoes.
I also want to add that the horses/ponies that wear the weighted shoes and such are NOT allowed to run loose (only under saddle/harness or in hand) because of fear of the weighted shoes getting thrown or the pony injuring themselves. This guy has pretty simple shoes, so I let him run as he wants! You can also see other videos of him posted loose at home playing. He sometimes goes barefoot during non-show season too.
whats the difference between the modern shetland and the shetland, did they breed in arabian or hackney or something? sorry just wondering, gorgeous by the way, how tall?
@mawazhere13 The "Modern" Shetland usually has Hackney Pony breeding. Outcrosses were allowed in the American Shetland Pony studbook for a brief time. This pony is about 45" tall at the withers.
@mawazhere13 I wonder why they call this shetlandponies. They're more like mix hackney/ welsh. But calling this a shetlandpony is the same as calling a Friesian a shetlandpony. They should make these animals a new breed. But a shetlandpony it's not. I love shetties, I own shetties, I would never EVER want to own a pony shown as on the video.
@Saartje05 I think that different people prefer different breeds, and there are alot of people out there that would like a flashy, petite, pony. But I definately agree with you about seperating the Shetland and the "Modern" Shetland into two different breeds as they are both completely different from what I can tell
@mawazhere13 Of course different people want different breeds, and it's no problem they want a flashy pony. But what they did now is taking a sturdy, strong pony and turned it in some kind of weird kind of hackney mix. They shouldn't call this a shetlandpony at all, no matter if they call it a 'modern' shetland. It's an insult towards the strong pony it once was.
@Saartje05 Everyone has their own tastes. I think any well cared for, happy horse is beautiful regardless of what it is. Personally, I don't care for stock horses (like Quarter Horses) because I think they are not flashy at all. But I've certainly seen beautiful ones!
@Epona1979 You think a horse with double horse shoes, check reins, forced to lift their feet even higher than they naturally do, is happy? No matter what your taste is, but you know they aren't. And again, these ponies aren't shetlandponies. A shetlandpony doesn't look like this, doesn't behave like this and doesn't walk like this.
@Epona1979 I don't like stock build dogs. That doesn't mean I take a labrador, mix it with all kinds of other slim build dogs and then still call it a labrador.
Thats a modern sheland? I thought there was only one shetland! WOW here the pounding of the hooves god!

kinda takes the fun out of horse shows when the stands are empty...no crowd to get the horse hype.

@Lugimoo I agree! The problem is, this was the last class of the night and it was VERY late, so most people already went to bed. :(
