Americans did all they wanted but now it is the axis of events where they have been made to pay a heavy price of it . When US army came in the first week of war after 9/11, in one operation sequel, taliban roasted 500 americans to death and therefore afterwards US only carpet bombed them for leisure but still today a large area is under the control of taliban and the americans only control the paksitan strip side of it ..... hope this helps
