Well for a start, rubato means interpreting a melody freely, normally in the absence of any other instrument keeping time. Here you have 1. a drum machine (yes, Drum machines play clave different to human beings) playing 3/2 clave, while the melody and conga pattern suggests it should be 2/3... 2. A rhythm resembling the cascara pattern of the timbales, programmed to play in 2/3, which is musical nonsense,...
So you have a rythm section suggesting a reversed odd time signature with the offbeat in the second phrase, since when is that new? I still find this very dancable. Maybe not when breaking on 2, but certainly when breaking on 1. (ow the percussion section is allowed to play rubato as the 'piano' is keeping the time. (in clave))
And it reverses after 6:30 or so, on what is really the outro, shines battle?
