  • OMG.......the hassle ! !

  • Anyone else think the guy in this video is a putz ?

  • Associated Press

    Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

    NASA

NASA has put together a team of 6 of their top scientists to solve a problem

that has perplexed mankind for years.

Its call project "How the $#$%^ do I reassemble a Ruger Mark 3"

NASA is certain this project many take years but they are fully devoted to

    an answer to it.

  • Is it true that when you buy a Mark 3 they offer you a 12 hour course in how to

    dis and reassemble it ????

  • Anyone want to buy a used Ruger Mark 3 that is disassembled !!!

  • I've watch this video 100 times and here I sit, into hour number 3, trying to get the last

piece in. This video is useless, he talked so fast and makes it look alot easier then it is.

Any gun I shoot I clean it right after but this one I will never clean again, will send it to the

factory and have them do it !!!

Tomorrow I am buying a Bersa Thunder 22. I have the Bersa 380 and it is really easy to clean.

The Bersa 22 is the same as the 380.

I never would have bought this gun if I knew it was

  • Ruger Mark IV, please be field strippable without tools

  • In many cultures, reassembly of the Ruger Mark III is a rite of passage to manhood.

  • I LOVE this gun when I shoot it, but I HATE it when I clean it after. Great reliable and accurate pistol but the take down is terrible.

  • nicely presented bro,ur d men...

  • Finally got mine back together after several attempts. There was some problem with the trigger out of the box - had to pull the trigger twice to fire the first round of each magazine I inserted. But I think I fixed the problem because it will now dry fire correctly. This gun is a curiosity to say the least!

  • Very concise and well-presented! :-)

  • I see alot of people complaining about fieldstriping this gun and selling them because of this. Please watch my video on Disassembly and Reassembly of the Ruger MKIII,it really isnt that bad..and I hate to see people selling such a great 22 because of that.

  • Thanks for your video but my way is a little less difficult, put the bolt back in the barrel before you put it back on the frame...keeping the hammer up,I have a video on it and will respond it to this one if you will accept it.

  • I love mine but am glad I got the MKII instead of the MKIII with all the safety garbage on it. with the 10 in barrel its a squirrel getter.

  • I got a Ruger the other day. Took it to the range and fell in love with it. Yeah its a pain putting this together when I compare it to my Xd 9mm. I wouldn't buying a second model of this gun. It shoots that well.

  • Thanks for all the feed back on this pistol. Knowing how hard it seems to be to disassemble, I'll just pass right over and buy the Browning equivalent instead. Too bad because I really like my Ruger .22 carbine.

  • Try a 1950 gun I have it is tight! Hey ruger interested in trading my red eagle cod box gun for 2 new competition stainless models?

  • Well I have been trying for hours to get this thing back together with no luck. That is saying something considering I can take a S%W revolver down to the frame and have it back together in no time.

I cannot fathom why this gun should be so hard to reassemble.

I will tell you this, once I get it back together I will be selling it and buying a Buckmark like I had in the past. I will also tell everyone I know to steer clear of this Ruger.

  • I have two mark III's. Today I just sat down and disassembled and reassembled until I got it right. It took about 3 cycles and now I feel fairly confident.

  • Hi i'm having a mark II and before critizising I have to say that I own several other ruger guns that I absolutely love ... ruger's my favourite brand ... but cleaning this model really is a nightmare for me ... i'll go to my local gun dealer and sell it asap

  • (continuing): I really like shooting this gun. I had a Buckmark and like my Mk. iii better. Today I was going to go shoot again, thought I'd clean the Mk. iii first, and still haven't been able to get it back together. I've watched this video and others. Still can't figure out why. I'll get it eventually - but I would have rather shot the gun today than struggled with reassembling it. A gun that causes me to miss opportunities to shoot is feeling more expensive to own.

  • I have watched people on YouTube put these back together with ease, as if it's nothing. Sometimes I can get my Mark iii back together in an hour and sometimes it takes hours. It is unfair to attack people's intelligence b/c they struggle reassembling this gun. I have a BS, MS, and doctorate, graduated with honors, been around guns all my life. I actually find field stripping my 1911 a satisfying, pleasurable experience. Ruger has at least a marketing problem, if not a technical problem.

  • DO NOT buy this pistol. It's like a beautiful woman that turns out to be a psycho once you married her... so difficult to reassemble...

  • Everything about this gun is great except the disassembly and reassembly, especially the reassembly. Something is wrong when you have to use a mallet to put your gun back together. I sold this and bought a Browning Buck Mark.

  • who ever invented this gun must of wanted us to cut are fingers up

  • total pain. I would suggest the gun shop show you how to tear it apart and reassemble before buying. Some guns may be easier than others. Mine is a nightmare and I regret buying it.

  • I picked up a Sig Sauer 1911 in .22 and love it!

  • good morning is a great pleasure to talk to you because I like the ruger mark 3 hunter and I would like to ask if they can make a video on how to build them because I find it very interesting to see but I have not seen anywhere I am using a translator to communicate with you coo like to know is the frame is designed in a solid block of steel or sheet metal is stamped with a weld seam? thank you very beautiful gun

  • After a few more views of this video, and better study of my manual, I've finally found where my frustration was coming from.

I'm so glad the last instruction on this video covered the very problem I was having.

No longer regretting my purchase, and looking forward to enjoying this firearm for many years to come.

  • Wow looks like a royal pain. Glad I don't have this gun.

  • @cooldog60

    Yeah. It is.

I regret my purchase so much.

  • You have no idea how simple this video my life has made. Now I can boldly go into the gun shop and buy one of these pistols, but I SWEAR that if I cant put it back together again, its going to break either, my door, my window, my tv, my cat, or my head. Please Lord have pity on me, and give me the wisdom in your kingdom to put together this piece of steel.

  • Sorry Ruger. I just spent over an hour fighting with this gun and still can't get it back together (again). I'm going to let the gun shop put it back together tomorrow and then trade it for a Sig 1911 in .22.

  • @nuccten i have the same problem i love the gun but dissasembling took an hour with full blows of a rubber mallet and it is impossible to reasemble..... its like it was made to not be field striped

  • great!!!!

  • tapped the mainspring housing into place until pin is protruding through barrel but can't get it back in all the way...may have to take to a gunsmith to get it back together. Any suggestions?

  • Just finished ultrasonic clean and lube on my Ruger Mark II , am reassembled and ready to go. Not too bad for the first time field stripping this weapon. Between the manual and this video, it was fairly straight forward. I was not ready to take a hammer to disengage the barrel/receiver from the grip frame just yet. From what I've read it's not just a little tap. I'll let an armourer take that on. One note, I did spend about an hour to find the firing pin stop that fell out of the bolt.

  • @RugerFirearms Very professional response to YouTube shenanigans. I just bought a mark 3, Ive never owned or fired a gun in my life, but these tech tips are very helpful. It looks complicated compared to other to other gun assembly's, but not impossible

  • WHY? WHY? WHY would Ruger make a pistol that requires an engineering PhD to disassemble/assemble a mere .22? Sorry, Ruger, there's no way I would spend my money, time, effort on this gun. You really blew it here.

  • @Tigermoon1950 This is not hard at all... this explanation if making it sound MUCH more complicated than it really is.

  • WHY? WHY? WHY would Ruger make a pistol that requires an engineering PhD to disassemble/assemble a mere .22? Sorry, Ruger, there's no way I would spend my money, time, effort on this gun. You really blew it here.

  • confused by just watching this.. don't think i would want one anymore.

  • I'm sorry, but is you're confused by this...you shouldn't own or fire weapons.

  • I regret buying this gun just because the reassembly is so difficult! Riger, you blew it with this one! Totally stupid engineering!

  • Omg... I'd like a simpler Version of this pistol please.

  • I bought a Mark III without looking into this part. I am a retired military officer and own a lot of firearms / pistols. I don't need a video for the others, however , you can mess this one up even with a video. I agree, not worth owning it for this alone. At least for black powder pistol cleaning you knew that extra effort was going to be part of the process, but it still had a "coolness" factor . This one was a surprise.

    Thanks for the video anyways.

  • Wonderfull instruction.

  • i have a mark 3 , reassembly of this gun is not worth owning this gun!

  • The Ruger 22/45 is a sweet shooting gun, but field stripping it is hell. Im in serious need of a gun smith. I could not get the main spring back in correctly and ended up breaking the housing latch. If that wasen't enough, I drove a pin out thinking it was holding back the main spring. It turned out the sear and spring. Think I'm going back to smith and wesson.

  • good god i thought my mark 2 was a pain i didn't need a video to put back together

  • He forgets to say that you need to pull the trigger while you are installing the mainspring housing. Otherwise the thing just pops back out again. Once you figure out the sequence of weird steps due to the firing pins and such it is pretty simple.

  • @PlinkerBelle Only for the 22/45 model. Reinsert the magazine, depress the trigger, and then fold the mainspring housing (while pointing the muzzle towards the ceiling) towards the grip. Then release the trigger, remove the magazine, and fully close the housing into the grip. Until I remembered the point the muzzle towards the ceiling before closing the mainspring housing, I found that after reinstalling the mainspring housing, the bolt wouldn't retract more than an inch or so.

  • @Dreldragon Um, actually check that manual again. Sorry, but it does say to depress the trigger prior to putting the mainspring into place for the other models (top pg 25 in my manual). The difference with the 22/45 model is that you have to also remove the magazine.

  • I used to like ruger until they made this pain in the ass

  • was a pain when i first did it! but after a few times doing it, it gets pretty easy. Still, i dont understand why ruger builds this so complicated.

  • Jenny can do it in under two min. !

look at jenny disassemble/reassembles gun by jennyxno2

  • Great videos from Ruger!

Nice and slow see, that's the way to do it, nice and slow.... line from a Bogart movie.

This is the Ruger design that started it all, that is why it is different then all the rest.

My MkIII Hunter is awesome. Worth the price.

  • For an automatic pistol operated by blowback, how could this be so complicated? Every other .22 cal. (and above) pistol that I have ever seen is easy. But even with the manual and this video, I couldn't reassemble my Mk III. Stupid? Maybe I am, but I have been reassembling automatic pistols for decades and never failed , or even had significant problems with any other pistol.

  • @donharmon42 the reassembly of this .22 is so difficult because of all of the features included to keep people who dont follow safe firearm handling procedures from shooting themselves. That is all

  • @passngas2 Agreed. I wish I was able to find a Mark II but I couldn't so I had to settle on a new Mark III. Still a good pistol but installing/removing the mag is a pain. Makes it hard to remember all the steps that are unneeded.

  • Put magazine in, take mag out, point it this way, point it that way, stand upside down, put mag in, point it that way, take it out. I have to admit- this pistol so sweet, it's worth every minute of re-assembly.

  • although good shooters this pistol way to complicated to take apart and even more so to put it back together compared to the other semi automatics

  • Thank you.... i couldnt get it

  • @bhasibhaai its a great gun and the feild strip is easy im 13 i can do it if you cant you need to take a special education class

  • @bigd5000100 True that man

  • Ruger makes the most unfriendly weapons when it comes to disassembly. Every Ruger I own takes 17 steps to remove the firing pin. Anything you do wrong can irreparably damage the weapon. Why all these components are necessary to fire little itty bitty rounds? I don't know.

  • danm my glock .22 conversion breaks down faster than this

  • This is a piece of crap I have put 2000 rounds through this and it still take almost a hour to put back together, and all I do is dent it up more that anything else.

and for thoes who think I'am stupid, guess what I have a collection of over 50 guns ranging from 1898 to today and have no problems taking them apart for me this is the biggest waste of money ever.

if you want a good pistol that is similer and better by all means get a

    GSG 1911 .22 pistol

  • @rommel2350 Either you're not following the instructions, or you've purchased a "lemon". However, the probability of purchasing a defective Ruger MK III is incredibly low, so it's likely the former option. Also, no one would of you as being stupid if you used proper spelling, punctuation and grammar.

  • It's so easy. I don't understand why a monkey couldn't do it, without any training.

  • wow, I didn't know this was terrible with guns babyville. I have never had a single problem reassembling this pistol. Ever.

  • I hate this gun. I am in my 12 year of military (Army) service and this is the most difficult weapon I have ever dealt with. I will gladly pay the difference for a “Buckmark” or any other .22 target pistol. Never will I own anther Ruger semi-auto.

  • That would be a mistake man. RUGER makes GREAT guns. The MkIII is built like a TANK. It's a bitch at 1st man, what can I say? I clean mine every time I use it and if its longer than 6months, its like learning it all over again. I like it that way though. I've had mine for 2 years and have almost 20k rounds through it. These guns NEVER wear out. They just get broken in after 100k rounds. Accuracy? Fuhgetaboutit. Like nothing else on the range. AND it's AMERICAN, not Austrian or Chinese

  • too much BS..they should design it to make it easy to clean........most pistols are easy to assemble..not this one...

  • This guy's gun must be nice and broken in. With a new out-of-the-box pistol it is really hard and stiff ! I couldn't get the bolt-pin back in {or out} had to use a dowel and mallet, the top receiver was another had to beat it with a mallet. It took me 2 hours just to do a basic lube ! I might be trading this in and getting the Buckmark today !

  • I went crazy with this gun thank god I sold it, its somebodys problem now.

  • I went crazy with this gun thank god i sold it its somebodys problem now.

  • Glad Im not the only one having trouble with this gun. Completly regret taking it apart and starting to regret buying it. Pontentail buyers beware, very frustrating experience

  • I have never even fired this gun and I am going to sell this piece of crap. Im gonna get a Sig mosquito like I should have the first time.

  • Not as easy as it looks, I have a 22/45 version and I've been working on it for days!!! I have still not got it back together to where it will fire...

the instructions Ruger should send with this gun are simple

    (1) never disassemble, EVER

    (2) clean out with spray lubricant oil about every 1,000 rounds fired

    (3) repeat steps 1-2

  • @rommel235your so right..its a nightmare..wish i never bought it...Im selling mine soon...

  • I'm having the hardest time assembling the last part of the gun. Literally took me 4 hours to try and figure out what I was doing wrong. I decided to get to bed because I was getting so frustrated. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be more rewarding. I almost want to sell this gun. It's the hardest gun I've ever had to clean.

Another thing that pisses me off is how easy it is for the guy to assemble the gun. I want to find him, punch him in the face and trade guns. Mine is so hard to take apart

  • @uemfbc

Watch the tech closely at 2:21 to 2:36 of the video. The hammer must be ALL THE WAY UP to clear the hammer strut out of the way for the next step. Then point the muzzle toward the ground and insert the housing assembly. Now watch the tech closely at 2:59 to 3:10 of the video. You need to point the muzzle UP to assure the hammer strut and housing plunger get correctly aligned.

  • I kept getting hung up on the reassembly because the hammer strut was caught up behind the cross pin. I think it would be worthwhile to include that piece of info. in your video. I see now from the other posts that I am not the first person to encounter this situation.

  • in the beginning it took me over 30 min to understand what to do in the final reassembly of this gun...but after 5-10 times cleaning it and taking it apart, it becomes fairly simple...very good and accurate gun but not user friendly on taking it down and assembly and the whole idea of using hammers on my gun, doesnt fly with me...

    keep practicing...

  • Great Tech tip. Ruger made a very good video.

  • very good info and yes this can be a bear at least the 1st time but not bad after doing a few times. thanks for great info, ruger rocks!!!

  • Yeah, that really helped, i was in a bad position with mine!! Test fired just fine!

  • thanks that helps alot

  • Hello, What is your name ? You have done a great job.

Thank you for all of your help.

    New York City

    D.J. Sal Z.

  • OK, I figured out the problem that was vexing me. There is a tiny metal lever (hammer strut?) that swings up and down. it must be up when latching the "housing latch". That is what gives the housing latch that last second of tension when closing it.

  • There you go..

I got same problem and need watch that last portion of the video more closely :)

  • I am very frustrated with the reassembly of my Mark III. Once it is assembled, the bolt will not pull back and the safety will not operate. I have watched this video MANY times. I have read the book. I cant believe that it can be this hard!

  • lmao what a nerd, anyone remember the movie "honey, I shunk the kids" ? he looks exactly like the nerd in the movie!

that being said, this pistol looks like a real PITA to clean, I think i'll get the buckmark instead

  • This video was much better than the others because it has close up images. I found that instead of pointing the gun with muzzel down it works better to tip it a little more upside down for the hammer and pin to fall into place.

  • This music at the beginning makes me want to dance!

  • This video was very good,. I was having serious problems putting this thing back together.

  • wooden meat tenderizer and a chopstick seem to help
