Yup great way of doing it...works like a charm. This is best especially with an older heater -as when you open the vent valve, or the drain valve..you can count on them getting clogged with the sediment/crap...and leaking. Yes, you should replace the heater eventually when its so old that there is a ton of sediment, but who has that kind of money lying around?
One thing to point out...Make sure you turn the water supply off!!! It should be obvious, but I did this today and forgot to turn it off and I got a real shower until I could reach up and turn it off. Once I did, it was a piece of cake, it saved me an hour of draining and refilling the tank and about 70 gallons of water.
Hi, my water heater stopped working after the water service was interrupted. it stayed on for about a day without water pressure n most likely that 's the reason. Can someone help me figuring out what's wrong with it and how to fix it
Haha, I lol'ed at the end. So you don't have to drain the tank completely. And what about the rubber ring. Don't you have to swap that from the old element to the new one? Maybe the new one already has one on it, I dunno....
So...... just be fast.

Yea once those turn valves get about 6 months old they fail. Better off killing the main water supply and draining the tank

Yes, the new element had a gasket on it already. Boy, that would have been a mess had if I had swap them!!
