ive heard mako too, and thats how he pronounces it. but it is BBC so u would think they would get it right. maybe the r is silent or something....

Knots (Nautical Miles per hour) are not the same as Miles per hour, as a Nautical mile is larger than a land mile. He may have given the speed in mph deliberately, as people are more familiar with it.
