Get a scooter, 50 cc to 125cc. Put some proper clothes on. Elbow, shoulder and knee protection. Get a proper training course. Cover those bare arms and protect your knees, hips and feet. Put proper gloves on. 1000cc will kill you, and possibly someone else. Just because the law might (stupidly) allow you to commit suicide doesn't mean you should. Start with a small machine and learn road-craft. Learn balance, braking, turning. Until then don't go near that bike....you'll regret it.
ss750 is a great starter bike. i started on a 2002 ss750 and it wasnt hard at all, definately not as hard as people make it out to be. added benefit of a cruiser bike is insurance is super cheap. mine was only $92 for the whole year and it was my first bike!
@shagy2k5 No, seriously mate, don't. YOU WILL crash. I'm not saying it's you personally, if you put someone that hasn't ridden before on a 1000cc you are asking for a serious crash.
@shagy2k5 I started on a 50cc a year ago and I've only just moved up to 125cc, in a few years, I want something like a bullet 350cc. Just do it slowly and steadily.
getting rid of my 2002 cbr f4i to get me a shadow 750 spirit or the 1100 dont know which one yet gotta sale my bike first. Looking for something more comfortable than a crotch rocket lol.
get the 750, nice stance, great balcance, and will get you up into the 100's quicker than you need to be up there. I just got mine two weeks ago. And I like it much better than I did my HD. 'Course i'd rather ride than wrench as the saying goes. But the look I want is easier to accomplish and cheaper with the SS750.
Just rode my bike for the first time. Stalled it twice, then took it on a hill and stalled it there. After 20 minutes, I was riding up and down the street by my apartment at 50km/h (3rd gear on my bike).
I just bought my 2005 Honda Shadow Aero today and its my first bike and basically my first time riding it..i took it around the parking lot and looked just like this guy lol! beautiful bike though, cant wait to be able to ride it without thinking so much and being so shaky, itll come with time
How tough was it being a first time on a Shadow Spirit? I'm going to be training on a 250 cc Yamaha Virago., but I either want a 750 cc Shadow Spirit or a Shadow Aero. I'm wondering how brutal the jump in engine size is going to be. Starting on one must take some balls lol.
great bikes to buy as beginners are 650 standards... Suzuki just came out with a new one that looks really nice is the suzuki gladius... check it out... nakeds are good because the riding position is comfortable, they are not cramped up like those crotch rockets so you can actually ride for long times without feeling tired...
I learned on a 125 in the MSF course. Great bike, not something I would buy though just because you will outgrow its limits in no time and get bored. But it is probably better that way, these bikes are very forgiving.
I take it that this is in America, damn you all! over here we have to learn on stupid 125's (although to be fair it's probably a good idea to have your first ride on a less powerful bike)
the way things are going in america with all the new riders i heard they are trying to pass a law that new riders cant ride anything more than a 250...im not sure if this is true or not i just got my temps and i ride my dads HD shovelhead and i think its 750cc but im not positive
actually the laws in the UK aren't particularly bad, concerning bike tests and stuff.
if you want, you can do a cram course called the DAS which lets you ride any bike without restriction (i think you have to be over 21, and have a full UK license already).... in fact i am doing so myself!
but even so, if you do the normal test, it only restricts you to 33bhp for a year or so. that's quite a lot, really.
oh wow! im really sorry man....you have to learn on 125's? I agree its good to start on a smaller bike but i would be bored with that in a week! i started on a 750 too
my first ride was also on a ss750 - right from the dealership to my company's parking lot in the middle of downtown Chicago - I thought I was gonna die bwahaha

Nothing smaller than a 1300 for V-twin cruiser unless you're under 5'4" and 50Kg. You'll be bored way to soon.
If you want to have fun buy a Buell.
fishgutzy 2 years ago
Actually YOU will be bored. A lot of people will also buy the rebel for it's awesome gas mileage.
