  • Fired from one of the sexiest, most powerful Loan Wolves of the United States Navy. New Mexico never gets old, neither do the Pennsylvanias or anything else. Let's face it - If they met Japan's navy (Anything, the shitty boar named Fuso, etc.) they'd win due to technological superiority of the 1930s. Yorktown/Lexington Class Carrier was unrivalled. (Shokoku had much less protection, exposed fuel and lit up like a Roman candle (as most Japanese carriers do) at the Philippines, 1944.)

  • my step dad bought this ship and scrapped it out.

  • @van061431 I have a web page with a picture of the Mississippi being towed to the breakers.

  • It's a shame that efforts to convert the Mississippi into a museum ship failed. I would have loved to go aboard her.

  • Great seeing an old battlewagon continuing to be useful. As I recall, she served till the mid fifties, long after her sisters went to the breakers.
