Teh makoz be messing with his body and not exactly sure but I think the fact that Aerith always seems to be healing him from the lifestream might have something to do with it. @augustuslxiii Not so much leveled up as it is the fact that he was infused with Mako after the reactor incident and was more or less on par with an actual "Soldier". He got a sneak attack in and barely managed to throw the original Sephiroth off the platform in the reactor before he collapsed.

Of course, you can't really forget how completely ridiculous some of the aspects of the movie are, such as, the gravity defying fights but then again without it the movie simply wouldnt be as enjoyable.

Once when Zack was alive, Zack got him in a SOLDIER 2nd outfit to get him in dry clothes because his infantry outfit was soaked with mako, then in FFVII in the crater I believe when Tifa helps Cloud find himself. All that Mako is now keeping him alive. He has S Cells in him just like Zack that prevented them from degrading.

This is what they said: Yes, he is wearing a 2nd class outfit, but, in the end of crisis core how Cloud is randomly on a train. They said inbetween Zack's death and that scene, they "promoted" him and he is a 1st class soldier. The reason why he is in a 2nd class outfit is because it would've been pointless to have to do 4 hours of remaking his outfit for not even 2 minutes of seeing it.

Pretty sure that's gameplay mechanics. As everybody knows, most of them have no context in the story. That's why cloud collapsed when he got seriously wounded by sephy in the Mako reactor. Saying that is the same as when people say:

"SHOULDA USED A PHOENIX DOWN" when someone dies. Square kept the mechanics of the game seperate from how their world "really " worked in FF7 - which is why this movie wasn't as good as it could've been. They took all the realism out for flashy-ness.

Cloud is infused with Mako energy that makes him beyond that of normal people, it's the reason they give for why Cloud (and Tifa) are more powerful than the others. Cloud fell into the lifestream, was infused with Mako, and is a spiritual "brother" of Sephiroth, all of this means Cloud is beyond that of a human, his body is more resistant, think of it basically as having both the revive and the restore materia implanted into his body.
