This is the great Bob Mosely doing the lead singing - no one else like him. Check out his lead vocal on Moby Grape's "Mr. Blues" and hear one of the great rock-soul vocals of all time.

i love actually being able to hear and understand the voices singing and hear the emotion in them. So missing from later musics

It does sound a little like him, especially at the beginning of the song. As much as I dig the Airplane, I like Moby Grape even more.
I think the Grape's music fits in well with the Airplane's & the Dead's, though.
