Well I'll tell ya pilgrim: I drive a Dodge Caravan mini-van & my Bogen Manfrotto tripod sits firmly on the floor between the front seats, strapped down, allowing full panning with the fluid head, to the front, sides, driver & passenger and even the rear. It even works with my Arri 16mm, film camera which is as heavy as a ton of bricks. FYI: If you loosen the set screw on the rear view mirror you can remove it for a better shot out the front window. It just takes a small allen wrench. Great vids!
In my 2000 Passat I pushed the passenger seat all the way back, placed my tripod (with one leg bottom under the handle that moves the seat for support), then I wedged a 24 pack box of Orville Redenbacher's Movie Theater Butter popcorn between the door and the center of the legs. Very smooth and did not fall over or move (only shook slighty with bumps and car vibrations).
The CruiseCam seems quite good. It would be hard to place a tripod in a moving vehicle unless you really moved your seat back, but then you would find it uncomftorble and be worrying about the safety of the camera.
thank you, thank you. I had no idea such a thing existed, and I luv making touring vids but always felt somewhat limited to when other people are driving; you've brought me happiness today! :D
You might wanna have a look at VirtualDub's Deshaker plugin. It's not built in, you need to google for it. It removes all the little shakes/vibrations from a video, making it really smooth. Great tool.
No, I haven't tried it with a wide-angle. I zoom the camcorder so that it just barely catches the hood an rear-view mirror. A wide angle might add some interest. Thanks for the suggestion.
ive been having trouble and i was just wondering if you can help me...when i render my video and i make it into a real video it maes it but its only a second long

That's an older Sony TRv9 camcorder. Shoots in miniDV format.
Find them used on eBay for $100.

bwoodfilms 4 years ago
Make sure you haven't checked the 'render selected region only' tab in the render options.
If you accidentally check that, only one second of blank video will be rendered if you haven't selected any video.
