Thank you for the kind words. I don't have time to practice as much as I'd like. A practice pad can be invaluable for technique and building up speed/endurance! I tend to take little bits from all places and work them into the solos. This solo is mostly my interpretation of solos by Carl Palmer. At the moment I'm looking at Virgil Donati's book - very interesting!
Thank you. I didn't know such a thing existed. I am fortunate in that I have a 28'' Paiste gong, marketed by Ludwig, from the 50's. It has the old "Ludwig" emblem etched into it on the back. It sounds so spectacular. You know, you European musician's are the best, better than we American's.I am trying to figure out how to upoload video of myself playing. I replicated Carl's stainless steel set out of wood Ludwig's, and would like to share them here, but don't know how to upload.
The answer to your question is very easy. At least I believe it is, and I'm in U.S. Most Europeans get musical training at a very early age--like 4-5. That is what Keith Emerson got when he was 5. Classical music training. We have nothing like that here. Sad. If I'm correct, or wrong about this early muscial training please tell me.
I can't believe the things you are doing with those sticks at the end, at about 7:00, not to mention all the other stuff. Mr. Palmer would be so proud of you,& so would Buddy Rich!
Don't practice much really... I work on a lot of polyrhythmical things these days. Warming up for the 'Noddys Puncture' gigs consists of playing through the entire Karn Evil 9 (including the drum solo) from the 'Welcome Back MFTTSTNE' live album from 1974 on a practice pad - once or twice a day for a few days before the gig. That helps get into Palmer mode! Oh and I'm more onto it with the keyboard parts now too.... noodling on the piano every day.
Yes it is !
