I have this processor and confirm its a monster overclocker.

Overclocked to 4.00 ghz at 4.5 volts, stable. 56c max temp prime 95 full load for 90 mins, Coolermaster v8 heatsink. I run it on a daily basis at 3.8ghz @ 1.35 volts, 52c max full load prime 95, 90 mins.

@Frostedchunks out of date is very subjective. a lot of people are still using old dual core processors and are gaming just fine. this cpu won't be out of date for a while.

Going to get that one for Christmas, but I've got an AM2+ motherboard (ALiveXFire-eSATA2). So, I read that the HT-Speed steps down from (I think) 5400 for AM3 to ~2000 (for AM2). My question is, if this would have any disadvantages for games, which I mainly will use it for.

@andylinkproductions Look, im no Intel fanboy but seriously, no. There are very few games which use more than 2 cores and most (especially older games) only use 1. I'd say a Phenom II is about as good for gaming as an i3, which is no surprise since it is 4 years newer!

@andylinkproductions No, that's pretty much wrong. An i3-2100 will beat an AMD 965 even in quad threaded games. Look at benchmarks. It's pretty sad an i3 2100 dual core can beat up to a 980 quad and even some cases a 1100T hex in gaming. I think we now know which processor is really "shit".

@TheExplicitJ 850w power supply is more than enough. heard of the 6750/6770, never the 6790, seeing as this cpu can handle a 6950 even 6970 without significant bottle neck you should be fine.

This CPU is amazing prefer it over an i7 2600 anyday. I play BF3 and MW3 and not all cores get used at once. Very Fast 4MB L3 Cache and 4x512MB L2 Cache so you have 6 MB of cache. Really need to replace stock cooler if you plan to games on it. I run it with Radeon x2 Radeon 6670s and 16GB Ram.

Nope, Look the CPU does not umm makes you play those games in ultra, no, the GPU is the man for the job, not the CPU, you need a atleast a gtx 560 ti to enjoy those games in ultra, or you can get a hd 6870 and you can still play those games and have fun, do not confuse the cpu with the gpu.

@xSpArTiChRiSx Don't listen to firehotstudios, in order to run games well you need a good balance of hardware, including ram, GPU, and CPU. Skimping on one or two will cause what's called a bottleneck (slow pc from lack of balanced hardware) But yes, this Cpu will run bf3 and skyrim at ultra. I have one and a 6870 and 4 gigs of ram and it runs them over 60 fps.

@zulok1337 i had one of these with a 5770 and ran skyrim on max at only 15 fps, i then upgraded to a 2500K and ran skyrim at 30fps, i cant beleive this thing was bottlenecking a 5770, intel seems to ahve in m opinion really taken off with the new sandy bridge stuff. Although i wonder how a newer better amd cpu would perform

@klooger28 You have it backwards, the 5770 is bottlenecking yours system period, get a 6870 and that 965 back and you'll be getting over 70 fps instead of your 30.

I know now it seems like 8 cores is a waste but 2 - 3 years from now? it will be alot more common to see 8 cores annd why not plan for the future now? and think about the added performance from another 4 cores, games like gta iv use 100% of my 4 core system and the framerate just gets way better once you begin overclocking. 8 cores is tommorows technology
