I love all the operas written by Mozart. There was an opera by Salieri that he performed in the movie, I don't know the name of the song though, and it was one of my favorite songs in the movie. The Turkish opera that Mozart wrote here in this video is another of my favorites.
@Stargon2011 the opera by Salieri that appears in the movie is Axur re d'Ormus. The song in particular is: Son queste le speranze. There are not many versions here in youtube, mainly because it's not a very much known opera.
THe only problem I had with this film was the whole American accent shit.... I meen, it really fucked some of this excellent shit up. Hulce was brilliant shit as Mozart. Really good. Just a shame his American voice came through, and shit. I meen, come on. Get a fucking grip, do some elocution lessons, and tear the shitter up a notch!
@JonRob2109 that wouldnt be accurate since he didn't speak english, neither did salieri. salieri would probably also have to have an italian accent with his english, also inaccurate. english was not a language europeans spoke to each other with back then. and who knows what language mozart and salieri spoke to each other in, probably a mixture of italian and german.
@devilxhlywood No that was my point, an American accent for Mozart and Salieri is the only thing about this film that didn't quite work. I can overlook that though and it's still one of my favourite films. Good point though, what European accent would have been accurate if the film is to be in English.
"All those male sopranos screeching, stupid fat couples rolling their eyes about; that's not love, it's just rubbish!" ... Bono's laugh after that is great haha
Salieri should have continued his own established greatness in another city far from Vienna and Mozart....then each composer could have had seperate followings that wouldnt trip over each other! and Salieri's sanity would have been saved!
I absolutely adore this movie, I wish I could find the bit of music between 4:40 on, I want to hear those 10 minutes of 'ghastly scales' and arpegios, lol! Not on any of the soundtracks. Thank you for posting this, love, love , love it.
@sweetaztecangel69 not that she can't hit amazing notes, i just don't like sound of her upper register, she almost "over" sings it to me to the point that my ears just don't agree with it. then again, i'm extremely particular with sopranos. to each their own i suppose.

My favorite moment from one of my favorite films. If it was jazz this would be the ultimate 'cutting contest', where you compete by improvising on the other guy's music.
this movie makes me want to go play piano. So I do. Then, dissapointed, I sink back into my chair and continue watching. It's a never ending cycle! (till the movie ends lol)
If I am to glean anything from a cursory study of history, one thing is very clear: having a lot of hair is a sign of health, vigor, virility and vitality. SHORTENING the hair is a sign of military involvement and intent--or making it more convenient to wear a variety of wigs for various occasions. Just an observation.
Madame Cavalieri known as Catarina was actually Salieri's lover in real life. If you study the real history of Salieri, you'll find that they were a couple. Salieri never married (I'm not sure if Cavalieri was married) but she was more of a girlfriend or mistress type. Contrary to this movie, Salieri never gave up sex in order to write music for God. Records show that Salieri & Cavalieri attended Mozart's Magic Flute premiere.
@mattyg10101 Indeed, i thought she was a great opera singer, but she doesn't seem to be very famous. I saw a some movies of her, and it looks like it's not the same woman who's singing ^^
Tom Hulce (the actor who plays Mozart) is so awesome in this part of the movie. It's my favorite part. His arm movements at 7:40 are so awesome with the music. I could just imagine it back then. For anyone wondering, the section at the start of the play is "martern aller arten". The end is the Chorus of the Janissaries.

'Amadeus' clip shows authentic 1750 - 1790 theater lighting
Film director decided to use the actual stage Mozart debuted his operas. Pause at 5:32 - 5:34 Best shot of lighting from stage view
Pause at 8:09 - 8:15 Good shots of authentic 'side-stage' mirror-backed wall sconces , then as
performers ready to take bow ~ see as the crystal chandeliers are lowering for snuffing.
