The only one in his way is a detective named L who is hella smart.

Death Note is basically about a guy (Light) who finds a notebook, and who's name is written in it dies within 40 seconds. It gets WAY better as you along, and there are 2 seasons, 37 episodes, and 3 movies There is also an anime review for this series which is amazingly accurate. It's called "BS Anime Reviews: Death Note".

I like this ending, but I think it was better for Light to lose the "battle" in the end, because it would be more conclusive and fitting for the story since Light eventually turned into a corrupt maniac. Then, he could go to the Shinigami world, where this would begin.
I'd like this also as a "where does Light go after death?" sort of add on of the real ending. Like he died, and we're just following him around to see what happens. That would be pretty cool!
Technically, if this was the ending, then they would have to make more episodes showing this alternative ending and the story behind what light does. At the very start L may have allowed this all to happen, just to let someone like light create a bunch of mass murders, that being L's plan all along (aka the shinigami king). light killed more than 124,925 people in the first few volumes of the manga alone, by this point he should have killed millions, perhaps even billions, thats my only real complaint, otherwise epic doujinshi

I think the best course of action Light could have taken was to relinquish ownership of the Death Note, By doing this im fairly certain Near wouldnt have sentenced Light to death & Light would then possibly have another chance to become Kira with the hidden piece of paper from the Death Note, which is hidden in the secret compartment of his watch.
There were many other ways for light to escape, but the thing is that the writer of DEATH NOTE wanted him dead, so it couldn't be helped. What do you think that a person who killed Misora Naomi and Raye Penber, and L, and other freaks with beautiful tricks would be caught only because Near's partner(Givanni) noticed that "Mikami Looked Suspicious on a certain point(while going bank)". That's just ridiculous....
Light died because the writer wanted to end it like that, that's all.

Thanks a lot for posting that, after I watched Death Note I immediately thought of many other things that could have happened, besides Light's lackey messing it all up! If LIght was going to ask to be killed, it should have been because he was capture was immenent, not because he was "tired of killing".
@GradientProphet I think it might've just been to trick Ryuk into killing him in order for him to see what would happen after his death/based on his hypothesis of what would happen, as he was more bored than tired.

The only thing I've noticed with this ending is that it implies after you die for all the people you kill, everything you did is erased. Because of that it would make the entire story line corrupted after Raye Penber. When he wrote the name of the 11 agents and his boss, he killed 12 people. The case went on for years after that. That's why I believe this ending was not chosen. Anyone can see this ending has more people in favor, but it has a huge plot hole involving why Raye wasn't forgotten.
@FuzzyketchupTuts When Light talked with Ryuk in the beginning, Ryuk told Light that the ORIGINAL owner, the one who first accepts and uses the Death Note, can't go to heaven or hell. That means that anyone who uses the Death Note after Light won't go to the Shinigami world, so Raye Penber and Takada are safe but Misa isn't.

Only the more reason for someone to get permission to create this alternate ending in the anime, prompting the beginning of a new spin-off series, where Light actually wins in the end. It's HIS show after all (and not OUR universe)........

There is no evidence he'll take a longer amount of time to die, but there is nothing that explicitly states he'll have the deaths drawn out for a long period of time. The way he killed Thierry Morello (A.K.A. Aiber) would take months, considering he used cancer. Of course, he could just suffer the compounded physical agony and keel over and die vomiting for 40 secs. It was a mere hypothesis.
@MrBlackshen True. Then again, the one death from cancer could have given him enough time to get to the king. It's kind of hard to tell exactly how long a given death takes to kill the person, because some deaths use more panels than others, even if they have similar circumstances. The notebook merely requires 40 secs to take effect, so a car accident still requires the victim to physically get in front of a car which would be affected by variables (speed of car, bleeding out, etc.)
@YonKitoTaoshibe hm... apparently on the Death Note Wiki, if every death takes place every 40 seconds, he has approximately 58 days. But, if that is true, he would be constantly hindered by every death, so he could hardly get there in time. And weren't some of the shown deaths similar... puzzling
@MrBlackshen Puzzling indeed. Despite being given a technical 57.835 days, it stands that there are too many variables to accurately determine how long he actually has. If he died once every 40 secs, he might take 10 secs getting up, only to be killed again. Fatigue would eventually set in, and he'd probably never make it. Of course, he could get thrown off a motorcycle (Wedy died in a motorcycle accident), off a cliff (it was in Colorado) and in front of the King, too.

Light cannot become a shinigami. tht is what ryuk said. he will just die and die again. but Light plans to rule the shinigami world or come into terms with the shinigami lord. he basically went crazy (as in "fearless") and wants to find the shinigami lord with the time he haves between dying and dying (40sec)

Thanks a lot for posting that, after I watched Death Note I immediately thought of many other things that could have happened, besides Light's lackey messing it all up! If LIght was going to ask to be killed, it should have been because he was capture was immenent, not because he was "tired of killing".

@GradientProphet I think it might've just been to trick Ryuk into killing him in order for him to see what would happen after his death/based on his hypothesis of what would happen, as he was more bored than tired.

That's a great ending, not to say the original intended ending is bad by all means it's a great ending and all but WOW.
Does anyone know if this is an offical extra from the creators or from a Doujin artist? Seriously I want know! Either way great discovery, someone should show this to the creators of Death Note, I'm sure they would get a good laugh out of this. XD

The only thing I've noticed with this ending is that it implies after you die for all the people you kill, everything you did is erased. Because of that it would make the entire story line corrupted after Raye Penber. When he wrote the name of the 11 agents and his boss, he killed 12 people. The case went on for years after that. That's why I believe this ending was not chosen. Anyone can see this ending has more people in favor, but it has a huge plot hole involving why Raye wasn't forgotten.

@FuzzyketchupTuts When Light talked with Ryuk in the beginning, Ryuk told Light that the ORIGINAL owner, the one who first accepts and uses the Death Note, can't go to heaven or hell. That means that anyone who uses the Death Note after Light won't go to the Shinigami world, so Raye Penber and Takada are safe but Misa isn't.

Only the more reason for someone to get permission to create this alternate ending in the anime, prompting the beginning of a new spin-off series, where Light actually wins in the end. It's HIS show after all (and not OUR universe)........

the beginning was kind of dumb, and this wouldn't work because Ryuk already said that besides the fear that came from using the Death Note, there is no "penalty"

A fitting ending to a sociopath's pathetic half-existence. And for the record, assuming he dies once every 40 secs, he will exist for 57.835 days. Talk about torture (124925 x 40 = 4,997,000 secs. 4,997,000 / 60 = 83,283.33 mins. 83,283.33 / 60 = 1,388 hours. 1,388 / 24 = 57.835 days).

@JFPC96 I don't. Note that I said "assuming he dies once every 40 secs". There is no evidence he'll take a longer amount of time to die, but there is nothing that explicitly states he'll have the deaths drawn out for a long period of time. The way he killed Thierry Morello (A.K.A. Aiber) would take months, considering he used cancer. Of course, he could just suffer the compounded physical agony and keel over and die vomiting for 40 secs. It was a mere hypothesis.

@MrBlackshen True. Then again, the one death from cancer could have given him enough time to get to the king. It's kind of hard to tell exactly how long a given death takes to kill the person, because some deaths use more panels than others, even if they have similar circumstances. The notebook merely requires 40 secs to take effect, so a car accident still requires the victim to physically get in front of a car which would be affected by variables (speed of car, bleeding out, etc.)

@YonKitoTaoshibe hm... apparently on the Death Note Wiki, if every death takes place every 40 seconds, he has approximately 58 days. But, if that is true, he would be constantly hindered by every death, so he could hardly get there in time. And weren't some of the shown deaths similar... puzzling

@MrBlackshen Puzzling indeed. Despite being given a technical 57.835 days, it stands that there are too many variables to accurately determine how long he actually has. If he died once every 40 secs, he might take 10 secs getting up, only to be killed again. Fatigue would eventually set in, and he'd probably never make it. Of course, he could get thrown off a motorcycle (Wedy died in a motorcycle accident), off a cliff (it was in Colorado) and in front of the King, too.
