For sure Roger was unhappy for most of his adult life: he never knew his father who died here in Italy in 1944 during the WWII (see also John Lennon who lost her mom when he was only 14), and I might suppose he was angry towards everyone. Almost no one amongst of the British rock genius of his generation have a nice memory of school days. I figure out that the decades past the WWII had to be hard for the children of those who fought in the war.

If u look at the entire song he's expressing how his mother, the war, the absence of his father, & later the turbulence of the 60's/drugs shaped his relationship w/woman & how he perceives acceptance. Was his mother over-protective? Absolutely. But she was a woman on her own raising a boy in a rapidly changing era. Ultimately, parents DO pass on their fears/beliefs. I have an infant son and I want so badly to protect him. It's beautiful.
