Is that what that belt is called - the "Andre 87"?? I like it. Anyone know if Reg Park made it? Shouldn't Andre have tried it on prior to coming out for the segment?
@Derby14 That is the "Andre 87" belt. Reg did make it. It was supposed to replace Hogan's WWF Title that he had at the time regardless of the outcome of the big match. Too bad it didn't. It's a gorgeous piece.
Reg Park was a bodybuiler & actor. The beltmaker is named Reggie Parks. Two different people. Reggie did make the Andre belt. I've heard the strap was 72 inches long and still too short!
@MrNWA4Life I remember the new belt was not even big enough!! Thanks for the info on Reggie Parks...I was under the impression that he and Reg Park were one in the same. Bret Hart once told a funny story about his dad and "the guy who used to make the championship belts" and he referred to him as Reg Park, which is what I think led to my confusion...
I heard that story Bret told, I read it on the Wrestling Classics site. Someone pointed out Bret's confusion. Ironically Reggie was born and raised in Edmonton, which was part of Stu's territory, and it was Stu that helped get Reggie in the business. Reggie was considered small (which he's not) and Stu used larger guys, so Stu got Reggie in with Don Owen in Portland, Oregon. I think I heard the plates on the Andre weren't big enough, they look like they are, just the straps too short.
