  • that sounds excellent man! you did a really good job with the tone and effects

  • @xHMASSOUDx Many thanks!

  • super schoen!

  • jesus so beautiful rock on i love it

  • You definetly have the Pink Floyd sound down. Very good.

Try to understand 'how' David Gilmour solos and you will be phenomenal. Its really satisfying if you get that down. :)

  • You know what? Ignore me, I see a previous comment where you said you were improvising over it. It really is a great version, glad you included the piano too. Cheers.

  • @PFTome No problem.. As I say... improvising over a Marooned style backing track that I created is not copyright infringement... However, if i'd copied Gilmour's guitar parts and never said it was a Floyd style song... That would be copyright infringement.

Anyhoo, glad you liked the track.

  • Very nice but the title should have the word 'cover' in it.

  • @PFTome It would if it was a cover... But it isn't. It's a Pink Floyd / Marroned style instrumental, but it certainly isn't a cover.

  • @MikeGarveyBlues not sure how to respond. Are you claiming this is not 'basically' the song Marooned just played a little differently? Don't get me wrong, I like this improvisation of Marooned a lot but seems a little like a copyright infringement to say this is your song and you wrote it. Am I wrong people?

  • @PFTome It's a Floyd / Gilmour style tune as I explained in the title. Yes, it's based on Marooned in terms of the general feel. However, copyright infringement? Not really... The guitar and piano work is all my own. The chord sequence is the main similarity, however in a different key.

Also, given the vid title and the description I think it's clear that this was a little tune aimed at fans of Marooned / the Floyd. Not like it's for sale on Amazon or Itunes. It's free, enjoy or not.

  • Very nice contribution. Humans are the everyday explorers

  • Guess you would have fitted in nicely with Pink Floyd...well played, well played..if I don't say to myself; that ain't PF...

Has the same exstatic effect I suppose...keep on playing ;)

  • I need more of this!! can't get enough!!!!!

  • @martiandj Cheers Martinadj, i'm working on some new songs at the moment, stay tuned!

  • Extrodinary

    Intergalactical power :P

  • @drydyboy Many thanks for commenting Drydyboy!

  • so trippy

  • @mitelradeu Thanks Mitel!

  • much gratitude for the tips Mike, i'm going to show my ignorance now and ask are the pick ups easily changed on the strat or should i leave it in the hands of a pro? too true about the tone being in his hands lol, i've admired the man since i discovered the floyd when i was 13 and am now on a mission to get that sound, keep on rockin buddy!!

  • @MyKeithH If you can afford to get a pro to do it i'd go down that route. I managed to do it but I made mistakes along the way such as not buying a soldering iron that ran hot enough and getting the wrong type of solder, lol! Also the pots act as a heat sink making it difficult to solder to.

It's doable though. Check out the Seymour Duncan website, I think there's vids on there for this and wiring diagrams for Strats. If your's is different the Fender website will have the diagrams.

  • @MikeGarveyBlues The SSL-1's are a classic vintage Strat sound. If you go for them make sure to get a reverse wound one for the middle. Gilmours Black Strat has a custom SSL-1 in the bridge. It's the same pickup as the SSL-5 and is what Fender is putting in their Gilmour signature Strats.

    All the best

    Mike

  • very nice m8, any tips on getting that gilmour tone, playing with a strat throught a gt-10 going into a roland cube. i think mr gilmour would be proud of that tune!!

  • @MyKeithH Cheers bud!

The pickups in your Strat can be a crucial component. I recommend Seymour Duncans SSL-1 and SSL-5 pickups. Other than that you need a bright EQ setting... Plenty mids. Some reverb and a bit of delay / echo to fatten the sound.

Try to resist the temptation to use more overdrive / distortion than is really needed. Gilmour gets a lot of his sound by playing very loud, at the feedback threshold.

Sadly, as i've found out.. Most of the tone is in his hands!

  • thank you for this version, its great!

  • Absoultely Awesome!

  • Cheers Bud!

  • Gilmoure is God! Well you know what I mean... Great job. Quite like piano too. Andy 5 Stars for the man!!

  • Muito bom David, realmente o melhor guitarrista do mundo da atualidade!!!

  • Yeah, cool. Like this!

  • Dude... as Randy Jackson might say... you rocked the house. I really liked your version. Its a very good rendition of a classic Floydian Song. The Video goes very nicely also. How long did you put into making this? Nice Job. Two Thumbs Up!

  • Hi, thanks Larry!!!

I initially set out to make a song that sounded a bit like Marooned.... More in feel than anything, but it came out sounding a bit too similar. Still, i'm quite proud of it, lol!

It didn't take too long to record as I pretty much just improvised over the backing track I made a handful of times until I got enough bits I liked.

Video took a while (Finding the clips) but not nearly as long as my Walter Trout video... That took days!

  • Backing track coming soon. Just need to remix it as I didn't create a seperate file when I made this. Didn't think anyone would want the backing, lol!

  • Hi, Mike still waiting for these backing track, hope you didnt forget... thanx

  • Congrats Mike, very nice tone and excellent playing. Is it a distortion effect from the POD or do you use a pedal?

If it is possible can I have a copy of the backtrack, I really enjoy it.

    Thanks

  • awesome playing, I also love the backing track did u make that? can I have a copy of that backing would love to jam on it...

also watch my cover of marooned

  • Thanks Tamertamo!

The backing track was created entirely by me. I'll have to see if I still have the individual files somewhere.

You are free to jam over it and share the results providing I am credited with creating the backing track.

I'll message you if I find the files.

    Cheers

    Mike

  • great tune mike lovely bit of play mate have a good cristmas ps nice tone too

  • it sounds to much like marooned

  • Thanks for commenting.

I feel you are right for the most part. i wanted to do a song like Marooned but at the same time I wish it was more original sounding. Was an interesting and fun little project.

  • Good stuff!

Like The suite "The Man & The Journey"...?

  • What is the name of this song?

  • This song is called 'The Journey', it's based on a song called Marooned by Pink Floyd.

  • This is wonderful.

  • Thanks for commenting!

  • Lol. it was too much... Marroned.... Anyway, a good job.
